No details but just saw this on Twitter. Anyone know the Mariners system well?

Sources: #Mariners not done. Trying to get Lind from #Brewers.

Again: #Mariners and #Brewers are in discussions on Lind, per sources.

I am told Mariners are thin in top-level prospects so will be interesting to see if they have enough to pry Lind away from #Brewers

What makes Haudricourt think Lind is worth a "top-level" prospect? Seems to me he would have been traded in July if that was the case. At best he'll fetch a B level guy or a couple C level guys.

If the system is that weak maybe they are looking at some talent on the 25 man that is controllable. If you get some decent talent for 3-4 years that wouldn't be all that bad. Obviously just depends on who it is

Could not agree more. Happy its not just me that thinks half of these packages are no where near good enough for Lucroy. Maybe I'm too high on him, but looking at the market for catchers and how cheap he is, I would be livid if we didn't get much more than some of these packages.

Edit - I'd like to add we got Phillips as the center piece for the Gomez trade as reference. I would imagine we should be able to get a similar ranked prospect (20-30) at the very least, as center piece for Lucroy

PS. Long time lurker, first time poster. Good to be here!

Welcome. In my opinion, Lucroy should go for an even higher return than what we got for Gomez. More time on contract, even more underpaid, both premium positions. Probably about the same health issue concerns when you figure Gomez was starting to miss a little bit of time, plus I think Lucroys injuries were more fluky, and I figured Gomez is going to throw out a ribcage muscle pretty soon with his at bat attempts.

D.J. Peterson's name is popping up. Moved to 1B for Seager but could play 3B. Doesn't look like an elite 1B (as in top flight hitter) but might have a future at 3B. First round pick.

That's even less than I expected. A corner infielder with a .636 OPS as a 23 year old in AA?

Hope there's another name.

Peterson was awful last year, but he looked great in 2014 between A/AA (playing in the Cally League really boosted his numbers). He's a below average fielder and strikes out a lot. Right handed. I guess it all comes down to which player Milwaukee sees - the 2014 or the 2015 version.

Yeah, well he had good years the previous 2 in low-A, A, and a bit in AA. First round pick so the trade would be assuming he can bounce back or figure out the AAA level.

My guess is they would take DJ Peterson and throw in high ceiling, low floor guy such as Brayan Hernandez or an arm like Nike Neidert.

If it was *Alex* Jackson, I'd assume it would be a head up trade.

Rather than deep flawed prospects who may never make it, I'd rather take one of their lefties off their major league roster since they just signed Wade Miley. If there is one thing Seattle has in abundance on their roster, it's controllable LHP and that's a need for the Brewers. If they could get a bottom of the rotation lefty starter for Lind, it could free up a deal for Peralta.

Austin Jackson went to the Cubs so it's a different Jackson.

It is brutal going through their system. Jack Z was heralded for his drafting and such but yet he did just an brutal job running that team. Through trades and drafting, they are simply just awful

That's why I'd be focusing on this group of LHP already at the major league level: Roenis Elias (27), Mike Montgomery (26), Vidal Nuno (28), and James Paxton (27). Nothing earth shattering, but back end controllable guys who could balance out the Brewer rotation a bit and have some trade value down the road.

Elias was one of the pieces sent to the Red Sox earlier today in part for Wade Miley. Hopefully there's a better match than Seattle for Lind. I'm not sure who that would be, though.

Elias was just traded to the Red Sox as part of the Wade Miley deal.

Just saw that. Still Montgomery or Paxton would be nice targets though they might have to add a prospect for either of those two.

I would like Paxton back if it's picking between that group. Guy has always intrigued me. The Mariners hopefully will overpay somehow for Lind. Not sure how, but hopefully they do.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Was going to say Austin Jackson until I realized he's gone...their roster and farm really is not appealing at all. Only guys I like are Taijuan Walker and maybe Paxton, but im sure the former is well off the table. Find something better please Stearns.

Hunter Morris 2.0?

The Mariners, who minutes ago reportedly agreed to acquire Wade Miley from the Red Sox, are also in pursuit of Brewers first baseman Adam Lind, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Seattle has a need at first base after trading both Mark Trumbo and Logan Morrison already this offseason.

Lind, 32, batted .277/.360/.460 for the Brewers in 2015 and would give the Mariners a potent bat to deploy against right-handed pitching. He’s a lifetime .293/.354/.509 hitter against righties and batted .291/.380/.503 against them in 2015. Lind is the quintessential platoon player, having logged just 112 PAs against lefties in 2015 and owning a career .213/.259/.327 batting line against southpaws. The Mariners have a potential in-house option to handle a platoon in the form of Jesus Montero, or the team could look to bring in a free-agent platoon partner such as Mike Napoli.

The Brewers exercised a one-year, $8MM club option on Lind this offseason on the heels of his solid 2015 season. He’ll be a free agent next winter.

They do have a C in Tyler Marlette. Still needs to work on the defense. He had a down year with the bat last year but put up a 860 ops in 2014 at A+/AA

I am told Rangers covet #Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy but I'm not sure they would trade him now. Would have to be huge return.

Gallo would certainly qualify as a huge return ;)
