From Colby in the Scouting Wisconsin thread:

I want to point out that I missed one big name from the WI prep ranks, RHP R.J. Seidel from La Crosse Central. He is 6'6", 205, and currently throws in the 87-88 range with plenty of room for added velocity. He also throws a decent CB, and he could easily vault up prospect ists this spring if he starts to refine his stuff while improving his velocity. He like Chad Pierce and Tony Butler has committed to Arkansas.

He also attended the Area Code Games last spring in California, invted by the White Sox to participate.

Its pretty exciting getting Siedel this late. BA had him as a top 200 prospect. He obviously fell for signability concerns. The Brewers will have to pony up bigtime to get this kid into the system. That could be possible, because the team drafted a number of easy signs, including Jeffress, Gillespie, Errecart, Wright, Ferguson, Clem, and Toneguzzi.

Seidel got shelled yesterday in the state sectionals for five runs in the first inning by La Crosse Logan. I've heard his plan is to accept a acholarship to Arkansas.

You'd think they'd have some bonus money to play with, given that they're picking in the middle of the rounds instead of at the top, and given that I don't think they've picked a lot of big-money guys. I'd love to see them spend to bring Siedel into the fold...remains to be seen whether he'd sign of course.

thanks for the articles fellas. Interesting that our 18th rounder won't sign, our 17th rounder wants to be a DFE, and our 16th rounder might require big bucks.

I noticed the article about our 18th round pick Andrew Clark and how he was upset at being drafted so late. I personally think he could have handled it with more class. Even if he wants to go to college instead, he should have at least expressed some appreciation for being drafted and not been so angry at the scout who called him.

The impression I got from the article was that this kid is a little arrogant.
