The ice surface is embarrassing.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Need good goalies to win it all. Badgers don’t have it.

Do the Badger forwards ever backcheck? Before Bemidji scored the 3rd goal they must have had a man wide open in the slot 5-6 times. Eventually, one got to a player by accident. It was only a matter of time though.

If Bruce Ciskie still posted here he could tell us about the time he called the longest game in tournament history.

Duluth beats North Dakota in quintuple overtime (5OT).

Had Duluth not gotten the bye after Michigan dropped out, I’d like to think UND would have taken care of business last night. Instead Duluth benefits from fresh legs in what turned out to be the longest game in college hockey history.

I need some new hobbies - watching the Packers, Bucks, and UND finish their regular seasons #1 only to disappoint in the playoffs is taking a toll on me. Anyone try stamp collecting?

Frozen Four:

UMass

Minnesota-Duluth

Minnesota State

St. Cloud State

I think I’m pulling for Minnesota State because they effectively got left behind out of the big college hockey realignment and have made the best out of a bad situation. Then probably St. Cloud because they’re competitive year-in and year-out, but have never broken through in the tourney. I’m still too sour about North Dakota’s 5OT loss to Duluth to pull for the Bulldogs, but maybe that will wear off in 2 weeks. I’ve always liked their program.

Outside the box with this one, but I don't care your gender. Up two goals with 2:24 left in your (NWHL) title game is NOT the time to take a 5-minute major.

It’s crazy to think that some guys played their last college hockey games last weekend and will be playing in the NHL this weekend.

Not too long ago, Brock Boeser played for North Dakota on a Friday night and then for the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

Hockey Fans:

I don’t watch a ton of hockey, but enjoy following a few college teams (North Dakota being my favorite). This week, UND’s Jacob Bernard-Docker signed with Ottawa. Looks to me like he was assigned #48 for the Sens. Some of the Twitter comments referred to this as a ‘bad number.’ However, I see jersey numbers all over the place (2-98) when watching the NHL. I didn’t think there was such thing as a ‘bad number.’ I know most colleges assign numbers 2-25 for their skaters and leave 1 and 30-35 for goalies. 26-29 are sort of the auxiliary numbers (at least at UND). Is there any rhyme or reason to how jersey numbers are assigned in the NHL?

Minnesota-Duluth will catch another break in the Frozen Four semis on Thursday. UMass will be down 4 players due to COVID protocols, including their #1 and #3 goalies. The backup goalie for Thursday’s game will be an undergraduate equipment manager.

Well, well, well...how the turntables.

I am surprised UMass won, now I hope they win the final.

I’m pulling for St. Cloud State out of conference pride. Plus, I usually root for Western teams over Eastern teams. I’ll admit though, I was surprised to see Duluth’s charmed run come to an end.

UMD got completely dominated in OT. I don't think they spent more than a minute in the offensive zone.

Yes, they flat out ran out of steam. Nothing left in the tank. That OT goal, they looked like zombies. "After getting outshot 36-15 in regulation, the Minutemen completely flipped the script in overtime and outshot UMD, 13-2." You just don't see this type of thing turn so drastically too often. As a Badger fan but Bulldog alum, it stinks they couldn't pull off the 3-peat but what an incredible run they've had.

Bob Motzko coached at his alma mater St. Cloud State from 2005-2018, but left to take the Gophers’ job. Now his successor has the Huskies one game away from a title. :)

Motzko was an assistant under Don Lucia on Minnesota’s B2B national championship teams in 2002 and 2003, so I understand why that job is attractive to him. Plus the money is probably better.

Fun side note: I sold a tie to Don Lucia while working at Macy’s in college.
