Im sure someone else has posted this, but how is Eric Thames not involved? Pathetic MLB. Big time slugger from THE best baseball town, with his team in 1st, no less. His numbers speak 4 themselves. And his epic hr over the pads in june. Wow??
T-rain.

I too think he deserves to be a participant in this but perhaps nobody asked him and/or he wanted a couple of days rest?

Who cares honestly. All the participants are power hitters with good HR numbers. Hardly a crime that Thames isn't included. Besides it is likely to be even more terrible than it usually is being at Marlins baseball Park. Anyone who doesn't pull it down the line won't last long.

The Brewers being in 1st has nothing to do with the HR Derby. Sure he's earned an opportunity to be in it but there can only be 8 participants. 7 made the AS team (Thames didn't) and Bour was in Final 5 vote (Thames wasn't) while being a hometown player (Thames isn't).. Where's the problem?

I think Molina being the backup catcher over Pina (and a couple other players if not Pina) is a bigger issue. I think Shaw not being in the Final 5 vote over Bryant is a bigger issue.

I think the last thing Thames needs is to be in the HR derby. He needs to adjust for the second half. It would be embarrassing if he struck out, which is about how well he is playing...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Given how messed up his timing has been at times this season I'm glad he isn't in it.

I agree that since the Brewers are contenders, I'm glad he's going to try to mess up his swing further.

Thames seems like a guy who would really get into it and possibly even get hurt.

I'd rather he get some rest for the 2nd half.

Thames said he would have declined if asked because of prior experiences with an HR derby in Korea. Let him get some rest and come back strong for the second half.

I wish I could play in MLB with a near .400 OBP and on pace for 40-50 HR. Man I would make a ton of money.

Maddon will probably play Knebel for 3 innings so he would be tired out for the beginning of the second half. Better for the Cubs if Knebel is ineffective.

Just sayin'.

That OBP was well below .300 last month.

Specifically 163/267/402/669 with a 37% K rate in June. So yeah, I want him to make adjustments and look more like the guy in April (or even May).

Or we can take his July stats which are .333/.440/.810/1.250

Thames has been so all over the place that we just have no clue what he really is at this point. The overall numbers look great though.

I liked this format on the Derby for the most part. I just wish there were a way to have the HRs continue even when the competitor has beaten his opponent. Maybe vs having a prearranged draw. They do a blind draw and just hit HRs until they are out of time and find out after all 8 have hit when they draw if they've beaten their drawn opponent. And repeat this every round so batter #2 doesn't get a number to beat when up there. Bour was awesome and for him to drop because he faced Judge just a little Lame.
