International Money

I see the Twins made a couple of creative trades yesterday giving up some of their international pool (from this year) to the Angels and Mariners, so that those two teams would have more to offer Ohtani. Do we have any money left in our pool? If so, would it make sense for us to do something similar? The Twins picked up two guys that are probably going to fit into their Top 30 prospect list, so seems like a good deal for them.

Just remember that the Brewers have the ability to use that money on any of the recently freed Braves Prospects.

Yes, dealing the pool money to an Ohtani finalist team is an option but not the only option for DS to consider.

Haven't a lot of those Braves prospects already signed with other teams? I'd love to pick up one of those guys, but I've heard nothing yet to suggest we are in on any of them. If not - why not trade the money to one of the Ohtani teams for a prospect? Just not the Cubs.

Yes, several have - including the prize one - Maitan.

It should be noted that scouts were not that impressed with the Braves players. Outside of Maitan, there weren't any guys that people loved. In fact, I read a couple of places that said the Braves were fools because they broke the rules to sign a lot of guys who weren't really that good.

When can those Braves players begin to be signed?
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Weeks ago.

What is the hold up then? You'd think if teams really wanted these guys they'd be flying off the shelves especially Maitan.

The Angels already signed Maitan. I'm assuming with everyone else there is a bidding war or negotiations.

With the Ohtani sweepstakes heating up it does seem like a unique opportunity to basically buy a prospect from one of the teams that still remain in the bidding. I like what the Twins did by identifying a couple of 2017 draft picks they wanted to acquire in exchange for their pool money.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Maitan and a few others have signed already.

After the Marlins deal of Dee Gordon & money to Seattle, DS had better make some sort of deal (either signing a former Braves prospect or trade of pool money)

Stearns doesn't have to do anything. Who cares what Seattle or the Marlins do - they don't dictate Stearns' strategy

Exactly. This is why I said DS should do something (deal for prospect or sign 1/more of the freed Braves prospects). Otherwise the resource (which cannot be carried over or reassigned to signing a major league free agent/ signing a player to an extension) would be lost/ wasted.
