Ryan Braun

Kershaw is the best pitcher of his generation.

Braun was a great player in his prime but will not make the Hall of Fame.

I don't think comparing the two is fair.

And I think fans and posters ARE serious about platooning Braun with Thames at 1B.

I think it would make Thames more valuable and keep Braun healthy all the way deep into October :)

Fans and posters might be serious (for whatever reason), but I doubt that Stearns and Counsell are. They are probably licking their chops at the possibility of a .880-.900+ OPS Braun in the middle of what this lineup could really be.

If Braun is healthy, he plays. Not sure why we want to continuously debate that.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Braun will hit 3rd 5-6 days per week when healthy, as he has the last 10 years at a high level with minimal signs of slowing down...certainly not enough for him to not be the very best hitter on the team. Better than Santana, better than Cain, Yelich is the only player that might be Braun's equal or close to it.

I mean I get that some of you have outside the box takes sometimes, but let's be somewhat realistic here. Braun is more likely to throw on the Bernie Brewer suit every game than he is to be a platoon bat...even a soft platoon.

Can we just sign Arrieta/Cobb, re-sign Walker, get Braun a firstbase glove, and get this thing on the road? That lineup would be sick.

CF Cain

LF Yelich

1B Braun

RF Santana

3B Shaw

2B Walker

Traded, not holding my breath. Bench, no.

The guy has averaged 125 games started the last 4 years. He's also played through minor injuries in those years. The goal should be to manage him as best as possible to keep wear and tear down on him so that he stays relevent for his 3 years left here.

If you take cain yelich and santana on peak start seasons you have 32 games that the 3 didn't start in a year. In career high starts seasons.

If you assume there is a 60/40 rhp/lhp starter ratio... 65 games will not be thames at 1b. 97 could be thames at 1b.

Dh games 10 is Braun and Thames vs rhp.

You are already to 107 starts for Braun with perfect health by all 5 players. 103 starts for Thames. Now you'd want both to get 125 like thames did last year and Braun has averaged over the last 4 years but its not like 107 and 103 is incredibly low for them. 18 short and 22 short. If Braun is hurt as often as last year 107 would be an increase in starts for him. Cain and Santana have missed time often enough to make it likely that the 40 game short coming on braun thames starts could unfortunately correct itself real easy. Difference with this build is that we have an answer for that injury that doesn't include captain kirk or broxton or perez or villar in cf etc.

If Braun can man 1b adequately compared to thames and aguilar. The best worst case scenerio is that Braun takes 18 starts from Thames vs rhp. Braun 125, thames 85. Puts thames 40 starts short... boo hoo. There is nearly no time available for Broxton... pr/defensive sub, and Aguilar PH barring a braun injury or dh day vs a lhp.

You have to flip Shaw and Santana to keep the righty-lefty going.

Take this with a grain of salt, but here's a tweet from an LA-based reporter who writes for Rebel Media.

Sources are saying #Dodgers and #Brewers “are in talks” with over potential Matt Kemp and Ryan Braun swap. No deal is imminent, both sides are just talking

I don't see the point of this deal, just thought it might be worth mentioning in here.

It has no point. Kemp is garbage. I have no idea why they'd even entertain doing this. The only thing I can figure is that high end prospects or Grandal would be coming back the Brewers' way along with Kemp.

maybe theyll throw in Kershaw

Boy oh boy, I sure hope not. That reeks of a trade for the sake of making a trade, which I sure don't like.

Braun's got better career numbers in almost all respects in fewer years & games -- including a .905 career OPS vs. .826 & 45.6 bWAR vs. 20.5 -- and averages more games/season in his career even with the PED suspension.

I'd much rather keep Braun. I don't think swapping Braun for Kemp does us any good whatsoever.

(Plus this proposed deal still leaves us with a PED-suspended guy. I'd rather keep the one we have.)

I'd do that in a heartbeat, not going to happen though.

Braun for Kemp, Mitchell White and Connor Wong.

I keep Ryan unless the dodgers are giving us another top arm

So just to be clear, would you trade Braun for anything besides a top arm?

Posted
I mean if they gave us a decent prospect or two I would be fine with the move. Just hope we immediately DFA Kemp. Don't see him adding anything to our roster.

All he'd do is take up a spot that could be going to a player like Aguilar or Phillips. Plus, as long as Santana is on the team, Kemp's skillset is completely redundant.

Acquiring Kemp would be an interesting move. Over the next three years, Braun is owed $19 million, $18 million, and $16 million respectively, for a total of $53 million. Kemp is owed $21.5 million the next two years for a total of $43 million. The main reason for this type of trade would be to clear that $16 million off the books after the 2019 season. It would allow the Brewers to make another significant move with that money one year earlier than if they still had Braun. It is a move that would allow Stearns to bring an important piece to the Brewers while still having 3 years of control of Cain and Yelich compared to only 2 years.

You do this deal to save the money. Dodgers aren't going to eat $25 million and throw us prospects. This would Aguilar on the team, and trading Santana possible and we would have Kemp for 2 years but he's horrible in the OF. I pass.

1 point for Rollie, that's exactly why Stearns should explore this.

For speculation purposes only if the Crew got Kemp in a deal. Instead of just releasing him they could eat some of his contract so he becomes a decent flip candidate for one of the non-contenders.
