Alex Cobb (Part 3)

Posted

So with Cobb generally considered the last big FA remaining, does the longer he go unsigned signify he's getting multiple offers or is he just wishing really hard he's going to get the money he wanted?

Once Arrieta's decision got made I thought Cobb would get signed fairly quickly so even this couple of days feels like a long time for him to be still out there.

I'll post this again since it got buried in Broxton trade talk...

Source - Expect Cobb to get 3 yr deal between $43-$48mil. #Brewers still in the running. He will likely make his decision in next few days. @brewers @Acobb53

Source? LOL. This is just some random guy with a twitter handle. And he's only connecting the dots, but not saying anything concrete.

Look at some of his other tweets on Arrieta and Lynn.

I was looking at his Lynn prediction, it would have held more water with me if it was closer to when Lynn actually signed instead of a couple weeks before.

Follow baseball insiders, read all rumors, report rumors as coming from personal "source", then quickly delete those tweets if rumor proves incorrect.

I feel like we've been down this road before.

We shall see...

Nightengale posted about Arrieta and Cobb more than likely signing this week.

This guy tweeted about Arrieta signing with Phillies or Nats on 3/1 and saying it would likely be 7-14 days before something happening and Jake signed on 3/10.

Again, he throws educated predictions up, says they are from a source, then quickly deletes if they don't come true. Hell, I could do that, and my only source is the voices in my head!

I am going to lose all hope for this sub-forum if people didn't learn anything from the HH19(and other accounts on Twitter this winter) debacle.

How many times does one get led to a desert to get water before they realize it is a desert.

Cobb just needs to sign, so we can finally end this thread and move to Major league forum.

Man, are we really going down this road again? :laughing
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Jon Heyman tweeted about Phillies interest in Arrieta on March 1. Nats were rumored to be interested in him all winter.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

So he made up the 7-14 days part?

Which is really what my original post was about. Lol. Didn't mean to start a whole new bout of rumor speculation, just trying to gauge how long others here felt it would take Cobb to sign somewhere now that he's the last man standing (of the significant FAs).

Some industry people were saying players should sign by Friday of last week if they wanted to be ready by opening day, Lynn trickled in on Saturday and Arrieta on Sunday. It's now Tuesday and Cobb is still out there. I half expected him to sign somewhere yesterday. Leading me to wonder if he's juggling two or more teams in negotiations right now. Maybe this works out for him.

I don't think you understand how twitter works.

I think Alex Cobb will have to settle for a 1 or 2 year deal at this point.

If a team offers him 3 years, I think it's a slam dunk.

I'm more than comfortable with the Brewers doing this as I will guess his Average Annual Salary will not exceed $14M at this junction.

My feeling is he gets around 3 years $39 million. With Lynn getting $12 million and Chatwood's 3 year deal coming in a little over $12.5 million per year, $13 million per year for Cobb seems about right. Unless he can get a couple clubs to engage in a minor bidding war, him being the last guy standing.

Milwaukee or Baltimore. I see St. Luis as a sneaky, lurker team too.
