Yep, may have been premature because they once again control their own destiny in making the playoffs. Then again, it might be the last gasp because they’ve been playing the Marlins. Time will tell if they can keep it up.

The Brewers are not in control of who they play. All they can control is whether they play well against the teams on their schedule. It it isn't like this team hasn't looked like crap against the Marlins this season.

I do agree that we are either at the high point of the season right now and will come crashing back to reality over the next week or so OR this is the jumping point to another playoff run with a very shaky roster. Either way, baseball matters mid-September and they have everything in front of them that they want to accomplish.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

In control of their own destiny simply means they do not need teams ahead of them to lose games in order to qualify for the playoffs.

As for the eulogy, keep in mind, the Brewers on September 12th are four games out of first, they were four games out of first place on August 4th. The only significant change over the last five weeks is that the Cubs have taken on water while the Brewers have kept pace and gotten themselves back in the discussion. I wouldn't mind being wrong and taking the internet grief that goes along with it. Time will tell.

My comment was more directed at the idea that you're saying this is a last gasp because they are playing the Marlins. You have to beat the teams on your schedule. Win enough of 'em, and you're in. The way it shook out this year, the Brewers appear to have an easier strength of schedule than most of the other contenders for the last 20 games. Of course, it is up to them to prove they are the better team.

I want it noted that I never posted in this thread other than to say on Sept 12th that Counsell should be NL MoTY.

I noted a few time during in game threads that even if I felt that it was slim chance they'd get back in it, I wasn't giving up until we got eliminated.

That's the thing, time WON'T tell. You're already wrong, they weren't out of it August 4th. If they end up making the playoffs or not doesn't change that fact.

^This. Is there an application process to ban the OP?

my call to win 12 in a row to decide the division seemed quite prophetic. In baseball it can happen. Many fans somehow believe the Brewers were awesome all of 2018. They forget that they were good, but a huge Sept surge barely worked. This team isn't all that different. In fact, they're still finding their identity.

Good call!

Good post.

You can say what you want about Craig Counsell from April to the end of August about over or under management but when September 1 rolls around there is no better manger in baseball at managing expanded rosters ,no one.

Completely agree. Absolute master of the 40 game roster. Two years in a row is no fluke
