Hill gets $3M plus ability to add $9.5M in incentives, which can be met by recording only 15 starts and/or 75 innings thrown.

Bailey gets $7M.

Homer Bailey getting $7 million just makes the Brewers deals for Anderson and Lindblom look that much better. Hill is a solid upside signing, though.

Remember when the Brewers passed on Bailey for Mark Rogers in the draft? That was eons ago. Can't believe he's still in the bigs.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I wouldn't have minded Hill, but thats very expensive if he hits the very low threshold for his bonus.

no thank you on Bailey. never thought he was much good at all.

agreed that it makes stearns moves to put the rotation even better.

This is the part of that article we read this week where the small organization says "We tried in Free Agency this year," and the fanbase goes along with it because its a "name" player that the average joe recognizes him as a "pretty good guy in the past." Nevermind that 3 million could have gone towards an actual player like Donaldson or Castellanos...but asking the Pohlads to spend money is for another day.

I think the Hill deal is pretty smart for the Twins, and really for both parties. The incentives probably should require 20/100 to max out, but it protects the Twins quite a bit if the guy simply never pitches.

I was bummed to see Hill landed elsewhere. I was ticked when I saw it was for only 3 mil. Seeing that it's actually 9.5 mil with an age implosion fail safe at 3 mil, I'm a lot calmer.

Smart deal, I wouldn't have minded it one bit but it's not a steal at nearly 10 mil for 20-22 starts he'll give you in a typical year.

I was hoping 6/1.

Hill is out until midseason, which explains the low treshold and thr quiet market for him. A healthy Hill gets more money than this.
