I saw the replay of the play in which he got injured and notice that his "running" is so unnatural, with the outside of the plant of the foot hitting the ground well before the middle of the plant, his reference of being a "non athlete" his so true, he looks like having a problem of posture that is very strange to not being addressed in his career (life).

I'm curious where both the player and team draw the line on playing through an injury vs. coming out. Obviously if you are at risk of further injury or are going to hurt the team by playing, then they'll pull you, but does a guy like Anderson maybe just not ever want to play through any minor injury or discomfort?

 

I am not meaning to question his toughness at all and understand the business aspect of it, but I just don't understand a guy having to leave a game due to injury so often, but then be able to make his next start a couple days down the road?

Anderson is a veteran, I don't understand this 100 innings threshold at all. Tack on that fact that he isn't signed for next year, and should be treated like a rented mule (nice, but not this nice).

And then the Brewers would have issues signing guys like Anderson in the future. One of the reasons I think the Brewers continue to be successful is how they treat ALL players in their system. It's working too. So there is that.

I believe the 100 innings thing is they didn't sign him to be a full time every 5th day starter........he's a fringe guy who they thought could be of value in a limited role.

 

Which is really what he is....so we should all be glad he isn't pitching more......our other options..with possible exception of Houser..are all better.

He has been our 6th or 7th best starter, so limiting his innings is a good thing, right? Do you really want more?

 

Plus, given his injury history... we want him healthy when he pitches. Even if we could push 200 IP out of him in a season, we would have greatly diminished returns.

 

So he is kind of a "less is more" pitcher on two fronts.

I would much rather see Ashby start and quite honestly, I think he would give us a better chance to win. Looking forward to Ashby replacing Anderson in the rotation next year. Anderson has been a good #5 starter for us but he's injured a lot and it's just time to move on.
