Relief pitching options

The Brewers have an obvious need for relief pitching at the major league level. They have also not hesitated to bring up starting pitchers to fill roles in the bullpen down the stretch. I dont know enough about our minor league system but who do we have that could make an impact in the bullpen. The one guy I follow closely is Ethan Small and it seems like if he could get his walks figured out he may be the kind of guy who could pitch out the bullpen come august or september.

I wouldn't say the Brewers have an obvious need. They have had very good relief pitching, and Lauer/Houser help add some stability when not starting. I expect that we'll add a reliever at the trade deadline. the AAA lefties could get a look as well.

If you're looking for the Burnes/Peralta of 2018 profile where a highly-regarded starting prospect comes out of the pen and throws electric stuff for an inning or two, I think Aaron Ashby is closest to that.

Maybe Nathan Kirby ?

He was my sleeper pick prior to the season and has not disappointed so far. Would be great to get him to Milwaukee at some point this season.

Really? Right now I feel like they have an elite closer. A solid multi inning guy in suter. Boxberger has been solid. After that Williams gas struggled. Yardley and Richards have not looked good and milner is up in the bullpen and a question mark. Seems to me like they need help.

Ashby and Kirby are interesting. Both need to cut down on the walks. Cousins can't be much worse than Richards or yardley

I feel like this year for Kirby has a simple goal...just stay healthy. Everything with him this year seems primed to set him up for 2022. Have we seen any reports on his stuff? Is there any thought to returning him to starting if he has prolonged success this year? Who knows.

Kirby is a nice story, but the results outside of the ERA only look so-so. Ashby is the low-hanging fruit here, and Cousins is interesting just because it seems like they have been treating him like a legitimate prospect. If there is more of an out-of-nowhere one, I'd go Francis over Kirby.

Looks like they are preparing Ashby to come up and bolster the pen!

...and visions of Hader and Burnes danced in their heads...

Fair or unfair, I think expectations will be pretty high from fans. We saw success with top pitching prospects following that same multi inning role before. Excited to see what he can bring!

Don't forget Woodruff. I've always felt Woodruff learned to trust his stuff and attack hitters thanks to his bullpen time

I could see Jake Cousins making a big league appearance this season if he continues pitching well.

Good call. Any hot tips on the PowerBall drawing tomorrow?

With Richards now gone, we will need to go deeper into AAA if we need help. A few that are pitching well are Jandel Gustave, Luke Barker, and RJ Alvarez. All 28 and older so these guys are longshots but Cousins and M.Sanchez have worked out well so far. Lindblom is also really pitching well but it seems like we tried that already. All of these options would require a 40 man roster spot but it would not be hard to make room (e.g. Weber, Yardley, Milner)

Hopefully they can either get something out of Gustave or have finally become convinced (and are correct) that Barker is a legitimate prospect because it kind of felt like they traded both Richards and the guy most likely to take his place.

I would love for Barker to make it to the show...just to have a chance.

C Hummel and W Wilson are 26ish and seems to be destined to be the field player equivalents of Barker.
