Softball UPDATE #1 practice dates, etc.

Well, I like saturdays. Partly because it will be warmer at 2:00 on a saturday afternoon than it will be at 7:00 on a thursday night. Also because we won't be fighting the lack of daylight on a saturday. Also because saturday practices seem like a fun way to pass the afternoon ... whereas a thursday evening seems more like an errand I have to rush from work to attend.

[Additionally, personally, thursday early-evenings are just bad for me because I have a family thing for dinner every week. (which I am already planning to skip for our earlier thursday night games.)]

Last chance if anyone wants to just get together and toss the ball around tomorrow. I'm in western west allis and prefer not to travel far.

Unless you are strictly a 1B, ya really nead cleats. Especially outfielders.

people spend $300+ for bats, but I always use the $30 ones http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I just got back from Dunham's on Hwy 100 in West Allis.

Mary gave me a $100.00 allowance. I have enough left over for a beer.

I got:

Cleats: $20

Bat: $40

Batting Glove: $10.00

Equiptment Bag: $10.00

Baseball Pants: $13.00

They have a wicked sale going on right now. I'd recommend checking it out before stores run out of your size cleats.

Jam - I suggest you take back the pants (wear sweats), bat (use some elses), batting glove (it's softball).... and invest in more beer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hope to hear some updates from these games.

batting glove is padded to wear inside my mitt. I've broken and bruised up my palm before catching a liner right in the palm so I tend to be cautious.

Just wanted to say that from reading the other forums, it's pretty clear that if you wear your Brewerfan softball jersey to Miller Park, expect folks to notice and for fellow posters to even approach you.

Don't think it was planned as an advertising gimmick, but brewerjamie strikes again with what will be a fun marketing tool for you guys, so keep showing up at the park wearing your jersey.

Yes sir, it was intentional. I knew that a softball team would be a good idea to get our names out there, I knew that pride would get guys to wear their jerseys out around town. (I've done it too)

I'm alsogoing to see if we can play a local radio station's softball team. Formerly, Lazer, and now the HOG I believe the morning crew still accepts challengers. I've submitted an application to play them.

edit: Brewermary just showed me an ad in the paper for Sportmart. They have some softball bats 20% off. mary suggested that we get some of the black andpink Jenny Finch bats for $64.00

Yea... I wear mine every bowling league night now, and probably to every brewer game I go to this year... perhaps even when I'm on vacation in Tampa later this month.

Man, I can't wait for softball to start.

Since I didn't get the Jenny Finch model bat, I checked out the ASA site for approved/non-approved bats. here's a link: okie doke softball bats

Apparently, metal spikes are allowed in our league, but I'd suggest purchasing rubber or plastic cleats is you need some.

I've yet to determine the location of the first practice, but I will post it by the weekend.

Hang in there-

Jamie

Hey guys. I bought my glove last weekend and I need to break it in. I'm in Waukesha if anyone wants to throw the ball around or shag flies.

On edit: I'll be free anytime Sunday and most likely Saturday afternoon.

I may take you up on it... i'm way out of shape. I also don't have much expience throwing a softball.

Great. This is going to be 2002 Brewerish. I think we're in trouble.

Nah. Not only can I throw about 60 mph tops, I can also hit the ball out of the infield! I'm the next Alex Sanchez, minus the speed and attitude.

Hmm, think there's any need to get a cup? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Is this regular slow-pitch softball or crazy windup fast-pitch?
