Wisconsin gets us started early at home today, looking for a win to extend their series advantage to 2-0 against South Bend. RHP Ryne Moore (2.31 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 in 35 innings at Carolina) makes his High-A debut after a deserved recent promotion. Yesterday's hero Joe Gray Jr. (2-run game-winning 8th inning homer) bats 3rd today, manning center field:

We are nearing first pitch here in Appleton. What a High-A debut for Ryne today. These Cubbies are a formidable High-A opponent. I imagine the young hurler will be tested.

Not the support Ryne wanted to begin inning one. Zavi Warren makes the diving stop but throws a forced and wild toss to first that goes down the left-field line. Ok. Ok. Not to be fazed, Ryne makes an incredible diving stop of a popped bunt and gets the pick-off at second to boot. He induces a groundball down the 1B line to close out the inning. Incredible.

Ryne is facing trouble in inning two. A lead off single down the RF line followed by a roped double to left center to the wall. Joe Gray Jr. overthrows both cut-off men preventing any attempt at a throw-out at home. The runner advances on a ground-out to short. With one down, the infield in, the batter hits a weak chopper to Black who charges but is incapable of getting the runner out at home with a high throw. It's now 2-0. Men on first and second. One down. Some trouble here.

I would add, the guys look sluggish in this matinee. They're going to need some 'get up and go' to get into this game.

Heading to the fourth, Fort Wayne pitcher Daniel Palencia is perfect. Meanwhile, Moore has pitch counts of 4, 30, and 12. You can guess where the four run inning came from. It's a matinee slog for the T-Rats but a lotttttta ballgame left.

It doesn't look like Ryne Moore will make it out of inning four here. He has now hit three batters on the day (the second hit batter, resulting in the fifth run after a double). After struggling with hit batters in Carolina - 7 HB in 35 innings - this is now becoming 'an issue'. Ryne has an unorthodox delivery so this is possibly going to haunt him until he gets his stuff more dialed. 2 on, nobody out, and it's Cubs 5-0 here in the Fourth.

The Rattlers have two extremely odd double plays today, the most recent a 7-5-4. The other? Just a casual bunt pop-up to Moore who dove to corral it and popped up to nab the runner who had left second base for the 1-4 put-out.

It's 7-0 Cubs here in the fifth. I have to say, however, I don't believe I've ever watched a baseball game where I've seen two double plays on sacrifice pick-offs at second base (a 7-5-4 and a 7-6-4). The T-Rats are scuffling mightily but they are still entertaining with four double plays on the day.

Ashton McGee comes through with a double deep off the wall in left center and it is now a five run deficit. Let's hope Miguel Guerrero can begin finding his High-A footing to keep the game within manageable striking distance. He's into his second inning of work here in the sixth.

Today's strike zone includes the shoulder tips for home plate umpire Kevin Levine. I've watched Tyler Black and Darrien Miller called out on extremely unfavorable called third strikes on breaking pitches above their shoulders. There is some chirping coming forth from the Wisconsin dugout.

Carolina needs a win at home today to claw back to 1-1 in their series against Down East and stay above .500 on the season. RHP Fernando Olguin makes his full season affiliate debut after a solid showing in Rookie Arizona last year (2.87 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 8.3 K/9 in 31 1/3 innings). 1B Jesus Chirinos has reached base in 12 consecutive games:

Nashville has won 3 games in a row and looks to take a 2-0 series lead at home over Louisville, with RHP Thomas Jankins (4.22 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 9.3 K/9 in 10 2/3 innings) making the surprise spot start after dominant LHP Ethan Small (getting promoted to Milwaukee?!?) was scratched. RF David Dahl has been a consistent threat recently, getting hits in 7 of his last 8 games (12-for-33):

Our streaky Shuckers aim for a 5th consecutive victory and 2-0 series lead at the Mississippi Braves, with RHP Justin Bullock making just his 2nd start and appearance of 2022. 21-year old LF/2B Felix Valerio is on a 10-game hitting streak which has raised his slash to .277 AVG / .355 OBP / .515 SLG:

After Fernando Olguin pitched a scoreless three-up and three-down opening inning, Arbert Cipion opened up the bottom half with a drive over the wall in left (his third of the year). On to the second, and it's 1-0 Mudcats.

Yup. It's the same illness that has been making the rounds. Singleton recently as well as the same illness Hiura talked about post-game. Not the news we were looking for!

Just so we are aware: the Sounds enter tonight's game with a ridiculous 4 game streak whereby every starter has reached base at least once. This is, ummm, absurd. Yes, absurd is the word. They face former Sound and former Bickford nemesis Zach Godley in a clear Louisville bullpen game.

Godley had a four pitch walk to Jonny. He beaned Mark Mathias on the side of his helmet, and he just threw an extremely wild pitch to Tyler White over Tyler's head to the backstop. He then failed to cover home base and the catcher threw the bull right into Jonny Davis' leg. 1-0 on zero hits (you have to love it). He then walked Tyler on 5 pitches.

Felix Valerio just extended his hitting streak to 11 games on a rope double to left field tying the game and scoring Gabe Holt from second base. Thomas Dillard follows suit with an opposite field deeeeeeep fly ball off the wall in left and it's suddenly 3-2 Biloxi.

Have a Triple-A 2022 debut, Andy Otero! He has now completed 3 straight scoreless innings of one walk and one strikeout ball. It is a 3-3 ball game now as we head to the bottom of the sixth. These are the Nashville money innings. Let's see if we can see another late victory!

Carlos Luna is facing trouble here in the bottom of the seventh. Two conescutive doubles followed by a single to right field and there are still none down and the game is now tied 4-4. Hopefully he can get out of this without further damage.

The Sounds are doing what the 2022 Sounds do. With the bases juiced, Alex Jackson takes the inside breaking pitch off his thigh. One batter later, Monasterio works the count full and takes ball four just off the outside of the plate. It's now 5-3 Sounds. If this holds, Miguel Sanchez will be in line for the Win. Luke Barker is warming up in the Pen. Bases still juiced and we have the ever dangerous Jonathan Davis coming to the hot dish.
