Ryne Moore certainly has been thrown into the proverbial fire since his promotion. Straight into two starts agains League Leaders - first South Bend and now Cedar Rapids. Let's hope he has a better outing number two. He was obviously a little amped up for his first Start and struggled with control a bit. I'll be watching!

AAA Nashville (29-12) gets us started this week as they are away at Tigers' affiliate Toledo (21-19). Super-prospect LHP Ethan Small (1.95 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 12.8 K/9 in 32 1/3 innings) gets the start tonight after missing last week with illness. 2B Pablo Reyes (.760 OPS in 108 plate appearances) has homered in consecutive games and has a 6-game hitting streak:

Low-A Carolina (21-18) continues their homestand, this week facing White Sox affiliate Kannapolis (17-22). RHP Fernando Olguin makes his 2nd start of the season after throwing 5 shutout innings last week, DH/OF Hendry Mendez comes in carrying a 14-game on-base streak:

High-A Wisconsin (25-14) is on the road facing Twins' affiliate Cedar Rapids (26-13) in a battle for first place in the division. RHP Ryne Moore will make his 2nd start since promotion (4 innings, 6 runs last week). Joe Gray Jr. continues his steady climb after a rough start to the year, going 3-for-4 on Sunday to lift his season slash to .203 AVG / .317 OBP / .413 SLG:

Pablo Reyes walks, steals a base. And, Tyler White knocks him home with a single. It's now 1-1 in the top of the second. Weston Wilson is now at the plate with 2 down. Feliciano just hit for his 8th game straight with a single up the Middle. And the Mud Hens announcers are now glorifying the wonderful month Nashville has had. Good stuff!

Olguin is facing big trouble in the first inning here with the bases juiced and none down. He saw a lead-off double, followed by a walk, and then another single. With an 0-2 count on batter four, he saw a sacrifice fly turn into three runs on an atypical throwing error on the relay from Eduardo Garcia. The bases are now empty, one down, and it is 3-0 Kannapolis.

And Olguin takes out his frustrations on the unfortunate error by striking out his two remaining batters. On to the bottom-half of inning one and it is still 3-0 Kannapolis. We are into the top of the fourth in Toledo and Mario Felciano just hit his second single up the middle. There is one down and it is still 1-1.

Fantastic first inning for Ryne Moore. THIS is why we watch these young men. After conceding a well-hit 7th pitch double to the wall in left, Ryne induces a couple harmless outs (pop up and ground out - both to Tyler Black) and proceeds to strike out a lefty for the final out. What was finest of the inning, for me at least, was how they held on to the change-up until the second to last pitch. Great stuff! You just love to see this type of bounce-back.

Darrien Miller has now allowed 42 stolen bases on the 2022 season. In May. If you want to know why he doesn't sniff my Top 20, it's things like this. He just doesn't have the arm. AND, this was a case of: a good throw grabs the runner at second and the inning is over. BUT, it wasn't. And a seeing-eye well-hit single knocked the runner in. It's 1-0 Cedar Rapids with men now on first and second with 2 down.

It should be of note: Cedar Rapids doesn't really run the base-paths. But, you can bet they know Damien only nabs 10% of runners.

43rd and 44th stolen base on Darrien Miller for Willy Joey Garry Jr. - his second and third on the day. And, they weren't close. It's now 5-0 Cedar Rapids who are very much outclassing our beloved Timber Rattlers early.

CYCLE ALERT: Hedbert Perez just jacked his fourth home run on the season to make it an 8-7 ball game here (Kannapolis leads). Hedbert is 3 of 3 on the day and is missing a triple to complete the cycle. Let's go, Hedbert!

Arbert Cipion is up to the dish with men on first and third. Cipion walked to the plate batting 3-3 on the evening with an rbi in his last AB. He's just having A YEAR with his OPS up to 0.800 now (WOW!). AND, man, he ropes an absolute 102 mph cannon to the hole between first and second in a shift AND it literally caroms off the cleat of the pitcher leaping out of the way directly to the first baseman. Wow. Unfortunate bounce. I can't say enough about this young man. He is having an incredible season.

Eduardo Garcia hits a high arcing looping triple toward the line in left field and then aggressively scores on a Hendry Mendez comebacker (fielder's choice) beating the tag improbably by knocking the ball out of the glove. It's 8-8 and it's a new ball game here in the bottom half of the sixth.

Just like that Hedbert Perez nabs his fourth hit with a bomb double (his 3rd!!) on the evening. Let me check my Cycle call. I thought he had a single in there ?. It's 9-8 Mudcats!

Oh boy, after three straight Hobie Harris walks loaded the bases and made it 3-2 Sounds, the Mud Hens hit a broken bat ground ball Brice Turang bobbles and biffs and it's now 3-3 with only one down. A fly ball will win it for Toledo. Matt Hardy has the job trying to off-set further damage. He came in relief of the struggling Harris and saw the Turang error.

Feliciano sure has been good this month.  Just needs to find his power stroke, which has been curiously absent. Should be a fun youth movement in the lineup next year with him and Turang targeted for the opening day roster, with Wiemer perhaps not far behind. 

Remarkable improvement from Michele Vassalotti in Carolina.  He looked unimpressive last year.  Full time move to the pen and whatever was produced a 26/2 K:BB ratio and I may not being seeing him in Carolina much longer.
