The AAA Sounds are up 1-0 in their series in Toledo, with RHP Jason Alexander (2.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 6.2 K/9) going for his 7th(!) win. As far as hot bats go, we've got DH/C Mario Feliciano and his 8-game hitting streak (including two 4-hit games) and OF/IF Pablo Reyes with his 3-game homer streak (and 7-game hitting streak, also with two 4-hit games):

High-A Wisconsin trails their series 1-0 in Cedar Rapids, but the good news is that today's starter RHP Justin Jarvis is coming off a terrific 3-game stretch (16 IP, 2.25 ERA, 19 Ks). CF Joe Gray Jr. looks to keep his solid month going (.271 AVG / .391 OBP / .557 SLG in May):

Whoa, I've barely looked up and Nashville and Toledo are already in the 8th inning. Crazy.

Jason Alexander was dominant through 7 innings, facing only 23 batters. Unfortunately, those 2 extra batters scored in the 4th inning, knotting the game at 2-2.

Mario Feliciano extended his hitting streak to 9 games and the Sounds' put the leadoff hitter on base in 4 of the first 5 innings, but have only managed 2 runs thus far (still tied 2-2).

Let's hope Nashville can pull out this win on the road.

The answer is: Justin Jarvis

Have a Game young man. He is ELECTRIC right now. 7 complete of 9 k no run 2 hit ball? Swooooon. Hasler on in relief. Carlos Rodriguez stays red hot going 3-for-4 with a HR to boot. 5-0 T-Rats in the 8th!

Jarvis has really turned his season around these last few weeks.

Oh yes. He has been legitimately dominant. A very very exciting turn of events. 4 Starts in May? Let’s see:

22 2/3 ip / 18 h / 5 runs / 4 earned/ 8 walks/ 28 k’s/ .214 ba against / 1.15 WHIP

Most dominant games versus League Leaders Cedar Rapids and South Bend. ERA drop from 7.91 to 4.50. ERA of 1.59 on the month?!

Yeah, I’m excite!

Low-A Carolina stormed back in yesterday’s game to take a 1-0 series lead at home against the Cannon Ballers. Tonight, RHP Alexander Cornielle gets the call, after earning his first victory of the season in his last start (5 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 6 Ks). LF Hedbert Perez was the big contributor yesterday with 10 total bases (4-for-5, 4 RBIs, 4 runs):

As great as the offensive explosion for the Mudcats is, the numbers I am focusing on right now are these: 18 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 6 BB, 26 K.

That is the combined line for the last two starts from the Cornielle/Rodriguez tandem. Between what these two are turning into and Jarvis earlier in the day, this was a perfect advertisement for the work both the Brewers minor leaguers and the pitching development staff have been doing to register what are hopefully lasting improvements this early in the season.

The story of this year's Mudcats, given how young they are, was always going to be more about how good the players are in August versus how good they were in April, and it is nice to see these two among the group that is definitely trending in the right direction.
