The Timber Rattlers have the early start today, with RHP Zach Mort (5.18 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 7.9 K/9 in 40 innings)  trying to lead the team to a 5-1 series win at home over Cedar Rapids. 2B Jose Acosta has done a nice job since joining the club (.767 OPS in 65 plate appearances):

Tristan Peters collects Wisconsin’s first hit, which drives home Darrien Miller (reached via error). 1-0 Rattlers after one.

Cedars Rapids scored a run on a walk and 2 hits to tie it up 1-1 in the 2nd inning. Wisconsin responded with back-to-back homers by Ashton McGee and Antonio Pinero. 3-1 Rattlers after 2 innings.

Gotta wonder if 23-year old McGee gets the call back to Biloxi, though I guess Biloxi and Wisconsin are both down to 11 position players with Frelick, Holt and Clarke all unavailable lately.

I still remember that early season and daily joy from 1B Ernesto Martinez. Hopefully, we’ll get him back sometime before season’s end.

Here’s wishing all the best in healing and recovery for all our young prospects.

Ashton is definitely swinging a better bat of late - his 475’ 108mph bomb the other night indicative of that.

I would imagine, and maybe I’m wrong, he’s going to stay in High-A to recuperate that confidence and get his swing comfortable again. He discussed his struggles in the early season in a post-game pod this week. He has familiarity with Joe Ayrault from his days in Zebulon. I’m going 60/40 he stays to try and close out his season on a high note. I love the versatility he and Cam Devanney offer on the left-half of the infield. Ashton has been playing a decent 1B too this Kernels series.

Zach Mort continues to get roughed up by the Kernels in his second start of the week. Through 3, he has conceded 7 hits and 3 walks (1 hr). It’s now 4-4 as the T-Rats have the bases juiced and 2 down with Tyler Black looking to do some damage.

Mort’s out after 80 pitches / 3 innings.

RHP Brady Schanuel is in the 4-4 game, trying to re-set his season (6.86 ERA through 19 2/3 innings).

Atta boy, Brady: 3 scoreless innings, 1 hit, no walks, 4 Ks. That drops his ERA 90 points to 5.96. Still 4-4 though, with Tyler Gillies coming in for the 7th.

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th inning, Albert Cipion doubles, then Tyler Black singles him home for a 5-4 lead. C’mon men! Hold on!

Was there ever a doubt Cam Robinson wouldn’t shut this one down?!? Sheeeesh, repent ye doubters. He completes the final 2 innings for his third win (3-1 on the season with a couple Saves in there for good measure). He ends the game with a swing and a whiffff. T-Rats win 5-4. An incredible series and an incredible bullpen performance!

Budding phenom RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (Last 41 1/3 innings; 1.74 ERA, .453 OPS against, 52 Ks) is on the mound for the Mudcats, who seek to close out a 5-1 series win at home over Fayetteville. Leadoff man RF Hendry Mendez went 4-for-4 last night:

Back-to-back Jacks from Ashton McGee and Antonio Pinero. These balls were hammered. My goodness. That’s two absolute bombs from McGee in this series.

Not to be forgotten is the game-tying 18th double to extend his hitting streak to 10 games from Zavier Warren. This just in: Zavier is a very good baseball player.

RHP Alec Bettinger (6.59 ERA in 27 1/3 innings) makes his 10th appearance (6th start) of the year, as Nashville needs a victory to take the series 4-2 over Indianapolis. Yesterday’s hero 1B Jon Singleton (game winning 2-run homer) raised his season slash to .184 AVG / .359 OBP / .406 SLG:

Biloxi has lost 3 games in a row, so needs a win tonight at home against Mississippi to salvage a 3-3 series split. RHP Justin Bullock (5.79 ERA in 23 1/3 innings) makes his 9th start of 2022, while SS Andruw Monasterio comes in with an 8-game on-base streak:

DH/C Jeferson Quero homered in the 6th inning to cut Fayetteville’s lead to 3-1. He has Carolina’s only 2 hits in the game thus far.

RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez was not as sharp as usual, with the first 4 batters of the game reaching base (homer, single, 2 walks) before he settled in to cover 5 innings (3 runs, 2 earned, 6 Ks).

The first 3 batters of the game reached base against RHP Alec Bettinger for an early 2-0 deficit, but Nashville’s responded with 7 runs on 7 hits in the first 3 innings, including OF Abraham Almonte’s 9th homer of 2022 and RBI doubles from OF David Dahl and 1B Jon Singleton.

Fear not, Eduardo Garcia just doubled home (his 13th of the season) Jackson Chourio to tie it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the 8th. Mudcats have a man on 3rd base w 2 down and Jean Carmona at the dish…who grounds out to first on his second pitch. On to the ninth we go!

This just in:

Jakson Reetz Is now entering serious consideration for Brewers Minor League Player of the Year status. What he is doing in Biloxi is now approaching Spaceballs levels of Ludicrous. At this point, it is quite clear he and Jackson Chourio are in a tier by themselves. Lotta ballgames left but it is deserving of mention as he’s literally done it ALL season long to date. And, he’s done it as a late 2021 Minor League FA signing. Legendary stuff.

Joey Wiemer’s prolonged slump off the mysterious hand/thumb injury awhile back has most likely pushed him in the next tier of players at the halfway point. Anywho, fun to briefly mention.

And, back in the greater discussion of who I will now refer to as the ‘Biloxi See-Saws’ - they yet again approach the distinct possibility of dipping back below 0.500. In the top of the ninth, after 3 scoreless innings of 7k ball Carlos Luna has begun unraveling slightly with a lead-off single, double, to two-run single to open the ninth.7-3 Braves now.

Joey Wiemer is 0-for-4 with 2 more k’s. His toughest stretch at the plate in quite some time.
