Wong is not good this year.   He seems like a air head out there.

As I mentioned  in the Wong thread ( or the right one lol) trade him for weakness on this team and move Urias to second with Jace playing 3rd .

Omar is quietly a heckuva catcher.

with caratini playing well is there even a spot for severino

If he can repeat the .818 OPS against LHP from last year, then yes.

Puzzling … from one of the best to average defensively in one year

I can’t imagine any scenario where the Brewers pick up his $10M option for 2023

As long as they don’t put Hiura out there in his place, I will be fine

Yelich gets his share of cheap hits too.

He has the speed to smell a hit ! Say what you will ( not specifically you) about Yelich but he always hustles !

There’s still going to be the question of how often he’ll be able to play and whose place he takes.

If he catches he takes Caratini’s place, and how much of an upgrade is that?

At DH there’s no room for all of McCutchen, Yelich, Renfroe (if he ever comes back) and a CF.

At 1B he might do more harm in the field than he does good at the plate.

As I said before, I hope this is just a very short term thing until Taylor and Renfroe are ready. Then I think Severino and/or Hiura don’t have spots; I would take Brosseau over either of them.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I made that comment about Yelich’s cheap hits as more of a compliment to him and a counter to some of the cheap hits the opponents get.

Remember that when many were calling for Yelich to be moved down from the third spot in the order,  I was calling for him to be moved up to the leadoff spot. So, it warms my heart to see him do well there.

Until Renfroe comes back and with Taylor on the IL, I'd imagine he'd be at DH against LHPs with McCutchen in the corner outfield. Hiura will probably go down when Taylor comes back and then they'll probably be forced to make a decision when Renfroe returns. But that looks like it won't be till after the all-star break.

So, something like this against a LHP....

Yelich LF

Adames SS

McCutchen RF

Urias 2B

Severino DH

Tellez 1B

Brosseau 3B

Caratini C

Davis/Taylor CF

Steele will be pitching for the Cubs tomorrow so we’ll probably be getting a look at him then.

As you can see I didn't specify you . I also wanted him in the lead off spot  because of his pitch selection and speed , as did many of the posters on this site and other sites . I also love to see him do well .  when he does well so do the brewers .

I know you weren’t directing that at me. I was just using the opportunity to point out one of those rare times when something I recommended actually is working out.

I don’t want to jinx this but maybe that circulation thing was bothering woodruff this whole season.    He’s looked good coming back

we just need these other guys to have some semblance of their prior performance.    Heck. I’d be happy if one of them did

IF it did, that might explain his terrible first start in Chicago, where it was like 40 degrees outside. Actually, going full-on conspiracy mode, Woodruff's three "blow-up" starts this year were in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati in April/early May....

The fact that players, and especially pitchers, often have little things bothering them that aren’t publicized is one reason why people get uncomfortable when they aren’t performing up to expectations.

I am skeptical that Houser was feeling 100% and suddenly had this issue come up out of nowhere after serving up a few more gopher balls. Maybe something has been bothering him for some time and he tried to work through it, or maybe he hurt something trying to make mechanical adjustments to address the problems he was having.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
