6th round draft pick RHP Tyler Woessner is slated to make his Low-A debut as the starting pitcher for Carolina in Kannapolis this evening:

Currently cloudy skies in Biloxi with a 'chance' of random showers or thunderstorms. It's looking like they may even (audible gasp) get a chance to play some Double-A baseball.

Color me extremely excited to check in on Mr. Woessner. They've got some pitching riches, suddenly, with the influx of Woessner; Wagoner; and Logan Henderson. Exciting stuff. As Rodriguez, Cruz, and Cornielle head North, we see exciting new developments down South.

Tonight's outing has a little bit of a 'make or break' feel for struggling RHP Israel Puello. Can he keep his walks down? Can he throw strikes? Can he recover from a prolonged period of rough outings? I'm rooting for this young man to find that fine form of his first few starts. We know it's in there. Can he find it?

The High-A Timber Rattlers need a victory at home against Lansing to tie the series 2-2 and are counting on 21-year old RHP Israel Puello (5.84 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 91 Low-A/High-A innings) for a solid outing. 20-year old SS Eduardo Garcia was 3-for-4 yesterday and is having a decent bounce-back August (.755 OPS this month after .538 July):

Oh my, Biloxi and Reds' AA affiliate Chattanooga get to play baseball for the first time this week! It's a doubleheader, with LHP Robert Gasser making his 4th Biloxi start (1.84 ERA with 17 Ks through 14 2/3 innings thus far) in the opener. Let's hope 3B Zavier Warren continues his hot month (.932 OPS in August in High-A/AA):

Low-A Carolina also needs a win to bring themselves back to 2-2 in their series in Kannapolis, sending 2022 6th round pick RHP Tyler Woessner (0.00 ERA with 11 Ks in 6 ACL innings) out for his first action in full season affiliate baseball. SS Robert Moore comes in with a 7-game hitting streak, while SS Eric Brown Jr. is absent for a 3rd straight game:

RHP Dylan File has won in his last 4 outings (3 starts, 1 in relief; 2.18 ERA in last 20 2/3 innings) and gets the start tonight in Durham as AAA Nashville aims to claim a 3-1 series lead. 2B Patrick Dorrian has homered in 3 straight games, while DH/OF Esteury Ruiz has a 14-game hitting streak:

Noticed that too but difficult to know if it’s a scheduled day off or not. Guess we’ll see!

Maybe he got benched for only having one hit last night

Patrick Dorrian leads off the Sounds' game with a single and Brice Turang follows with his 12th homer of the year. This one was even to center field.  2-0 Sounds early.

Is there any downside to allowing Turang to mash these up the big leagues, especially since we need to add him to the 40-man roster by November?

Of course, I don't mind winning the International League, but if I had to choose I'd rather the Brewers make the playoffs.

Dorrian batting first is a head scratcher with Ruiz and Mitchell in the lineup.

But early results are promising.  ?

Have you seen how he's swung the bat in Durham? Not that surprising at all considering. He's been on an absolute tear.

Carolina taking their batters box here in the top of the 1st in Kannapolis. I'll report on Woessner shortly. Excited to see this young man toss it!

Woessner closes out a scoreless first with a fairly nasty strikeout pitch on Kannapolis' dangerous DH. He worked primarily fastball in his first two AB's. In the third, he really mixed in a change-up and some breaking stuff with nice impact. Solid first inning.

OF Edquarqui Fernandez is starting to feel it at the plate. He missed a HR by roughly 6' off the wall in dead center. He settles for a stand-up triple scoring OF Luis Castillo who had singled up the middle himself. Areinamo knocks a base hit to right field and it's 2-0. This is how you get your new starting pitcher some more comfort!

The reports of his velocity got my attention.  Another young prospect to follow,

RUH ROH! Joey Bombs is back baby. Just absolutely crushed a hanging breaking ball to dead left center. That's his 2nd HR of the series. You LOVE to see this surge. It was a solo jack. 5-0 Sounds.

When he lets it rip he definitely has a cannon. He's tossed a couple darts up there that gave me pause.

RHP Dylan File's turn to hang a breaking ball dead center. LOL. He just gave up a 2-run shot to right field just beyond the wall-scaling attempt from Joey Wiemer in right field. He gave Garrett Mitchell the "I missed it by an inch!" gesture as he laid on the grass after the failed but valiant attempt. 5-2 Sounds now.

Either Stearns is playing it coy or many of us are going to be disappointed

I know he wants to support the current guys but I see no reason not to give Frelick or Ruiz a shot at centerfield……..Davis’s defense isn’t going to get us to the playoffs

The strike zone is tightening up for Woessner here in the 2nd inning. After a couple wild pitches sent the lone base runner to 3rd base, Woessner has now walked two in a row to load the bases. 2 down. Mudcats clinging to a 2-0 lead.

Uh oh, Woessner just took a hard-hit comebacker off his pitching arm/hand? It's hard to tell. The trainer came out and gave skpipper Victor Estevez the 'no go' sign. Man, I sure as heck hope he's OK! He simply lost control this inning. He was trying to find and work the outside of the zone and couldn't locate it. Let's hope it's just a bruise. No bueno!!!! One run crossed as the ball died in the dirt with no play to be had. 2-1 Carolina. LHP Leoni De La Cruz will come in for the cover.
