Ops-ing just shy of 1.400 since joining the Angels AAA affiliate....give him another mlb shot!

The Angels organization has heard your pleas for Keston's next MLB opportunity:

"The Angels announced that infielder Luis Rengifo has been placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 4) due to inflammation in his right wrist.  In corresponding moves, the Halos selected the contract of infielder Keston Hiura from Triple-A, and moved right-hander Andrew Wantz to the 60-day injured list."

Interesting:

Thompson thought he was considered a priority with the team, but he was placed on Nashville’s seven-day development list on June 15, which keeps players on the active roster but doesn’t allow them to pitch in games.

Thompson said he and his agent didn’t receive a satisfactory answer for why he was placed on the list from the front office, so Thompson asked for his release on June 16. The Brewers initially denied the request, but agreed to it on June 23, then made the transaction official a day later.

(Also, noted: he clearly states in the earlier part of the article he has no ill-will toward the Brewers organization. He just knows he entered the affiliated game late and his very clear intent is to get a MLB opportunity. That is his priority.)

Former Huntsville Stars broadcaster and friend of the forum Alex Cohen got his first call up. Now the voice of the Iowa Cubs, Alex will be working a couple games for the Cubs, on the 14th and 19th.IMG_8128.jpeg.2fa843b7bcf7aa20c635517bfb56b275.jpeg

Wow. Kelly fell off this year.  This time last year I was really lamenting his loss in that trade.

2022 - future's game

2023 - top ranked reliever in Rangers org

2024 - DFA'd and claimed by Colorado

Makes the Matt Bush trade suck a little less.

Good luck to him and hope he gets healthy and can get to the bigs someday.

Would love to see RHP Joey Matulovich get another affiliated chance.

Here the former Timber Rattler is garnering award honors crushing it during the 2nd year of his indy ball stint in Winnipeg (six starts, 2.03 ERA, 0.875 WHIP).

Way back in his draft summer of 2018 (20th round), Joey was very courteous to me as I watched him pitch a gem in the Cape League. as he and the Brewers had yet to agree on a deal. Showed up in all my Brewers gear that night and asked to speak with him postgame. A few days later, he reported to Maryvale :).

Six weeks later, and Joey continues to crush it in indy ball.

Goldeyes ace Matulovich named Pitcher of Week for second time

The right-hander leads the American Association with a 2.12 earned run average, 94 strikeouts and 85 innings pitched. He is second in the league with eight wins. Sunday was Matulovich’s tenth quality start of the season.

Winnipeg is a tough place to get eyes on you, though that has improved since the days when former Brewers RHP Brandon Kintzler felt as though he needed to escape Winnipeg (2007-2008) in order to get noticed

LHP Darrell Thompson still hasn't latched on to his next opportunity. It's a month later and he is still in limbo with a 'Released' status. Here's hoping he and his family can get the right situation for their collective future.

Ummmm, yeah I'm here for this:

He signed a minor league deal with Yankees which is slightly gross, but I seriously hope he can make it to the MLB as a RP.

Yeah, that June 24th release date (asked for) is not looking smart. Don't in essence tear the uniform off yourself even before the organization may wish to. That June 15-21 stint on the Development List (basically a minor league taxi squad) must have really set Thompson off. He has not circled back to the indy ranks either, where he spent seven prior years. You're pitching for the other 29 organizations as well, but only when you're actually pitching.

There’s definitely self confidence needed to make it as an MLB athlete, but I think he had a little too much self confidence. I remember last year there was an article in his local newspaper where he basically said he expects to be up in the MLB when the Brewers played in DC I believe (can’t remember for sure) for a basically home town debut. I’m not sure he was ever close to being in the picture for an MLB call up last season.

I was very unhappy when we unloaded this guy, at least another organization was able to see that he has some value:  Good luck Max!

Phillies selected the contract of RHP Max Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

It’s the first trip to the big-leagues for the 25-year-old hurler. He was originally drafted as an 11th round pick by the Brewers from the 2017 draft class. He has bene outstanding in 34 appearances between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, compiling a 1.79 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and a 53/9 K/BB ratio over 40 1/3 innings of work. He’ll get at least a few days to show what he can do before the Phillies’ need to make room on the active roster for the return of Ranger Suarez.

Just an FYI but the Brewers did not unload Max Lazar. He was a minor league FA that chose to leave. Happy that he's succeeded in Philly and is getting a shot in the MLB

Unloaded was a bad word to use, should I have just said I was unhappy when we chose to allow him to leave?

You know what I meant.

I mean I definitely did not know what you meant. I thought you were saying he was released or traded.

EPIC EPIC EPIC season for Lazar. What an incredible story. So proud of that young man. Man, I was really sad when we lost him to ML FA. BUT, clearly it has worked out in all the right ways for Max who has hit an entirely different level in 2024. SO happy for him.

RHP TJ Shook has now gone three consecutive scoreless Saves in his first 3 SVO in 2024 (all in August) - 1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 R, 1 SV. Since joining Binghamton he has gone five consecutive scoreless outings. 8 IP, 10 K, 3 BB, 3 H, 0 R. I will continue to not understand that trade whatsoever. Didn't make sense the day of the trade. Doesn't make sense now. It's odd when the Brewers, an organization so adept at identifying and developing pitching talent, let guys like LHP Justin King (literally in King's caseand RHP TJ Shook go. I feel as though they never really understood what they had in either case. Regardless, extremely happy to see both young man crushing it in their next opportunities. King gave up his first run as a Blue Wahoo tonight. However, he's pitched in 8 games since he signed with the Wahoos. 7 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 HB, 14 K, 1 ER. He's been absolutely fantastic. I don't know what was going on for the talented lefty in Biloxi but he's always had the talent and he has really put together a master class since moving just down the way in Pensacola. Very very happy for him.

Max Lazar's first MLB strikeout!

1 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 R. 15 pitches. 12 strikes. Gorgeous work. Now, did only manage one swing and miss in 10 swings. Averaged 100.9 mph exit velo on the cutter with a 109 mph off the cutter in there as well. BUT, who cares, that's a huge moment for the young man.
