Might have to do with the fact that he's one of the truly great guys in the game. Yes, his lack of power has been frustrating and his error last week in extras was just awful, but he still gets on base really well, which this team really needs. Of course, just a little more power would go a long ways for everyone.

What this team needs is Yelich to be the player he is being paid to be. Merely getting on base is not enough. That’s his salvaging some positive value. It’s spin control to say “he gets on base really well.” He’s not getting $26 million to get on. He’s getting paid that to be an elite offensive player that hits for power and drives in runs.

He’s gone from a .631 SLG over two seasons to a .374 the last two. That’s a nearly 300 point drop. His ISO has dropped from 304 to 123. That’s about 40% of what he used to do.

A needed win for the Brewers tonight but it’s just another day  off the calendar with no progress made as the Padres, Phillies, and Cardinals all win. It’s going to take something like 8 or 9 out of 10 to make up anything significant.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yes it would be nice if the offense did this more than twice a month, but I doubt that will happen. Really they're doing nothing different than they have all year, either hitting home runs or taking advantage of shoddy defense. Maybe the only difference is men are on base tonight when they hit those home runs.

To me a big difference is they actually gave an opponent the opportunity to play shoddy defense. The bunt opened things up, then after the Yelich HR--well, if it's actually possible to see a baseball team exhale, we saw it tonight. Whether it has a lasting effect is anyones' guess.

Bush has good velocity but it's straight as a string.

That's why the curve is so important for him, and why he's so effective when he throws it at the right times in the count. He did tick me off tonite though. The walk to Happ was the definition of nibbling. Matt, I don't care if he took you deep yesterday. You're up four runs, W/ 2 out and no one on base. Good grief.

I keep telling myself re Yelich that he IS doing the job for the most part in the leadoff spot. I get the whole thing about the contract & how he's paid to do so much more, but there have been plenty of power hitters who "lose it" & are pretty much useless. At least he has the speed, the baserunning ability to give them something else.

Never said it wouldn't be nice. What Yelich is doing right now is not worth $26 million. However, he's far from a useless player. Getting on-base is extremely important, especially when you're hitting leadoff which Yelich is and have a lack of OBP elsewhere on the roster.

Pretty hard to do when the opposing defense hands you those runs on a silver platter.

Especially when you force someone to make a play & he can't. They put little to no pressure on the opposition, and that probably won't change anytime soon due to roster makeup/attitude. That's why it was so nice to see tonite.

Gonna be a good day.

I think 17-1, Brewers.

Time to wake up the bats.

Got the 7 right!
