4 consecutive K's. 5 total. 2  IP so far - they might give him 3 innings tho after his elevated pitch count in the first I doubt it. Love some Middies. Nothing middling about his stuff folks. I've been saying this since I first saw his box scores in the ACL and then watched him dominance in Carolina. Incredible performance. This is a gem for our relief corps.

On for his 3rd inning. Why not see the ump blow a strike 3 on a glorious slider and follow it with a ripping 4-seamer to strike out Easley for the 2nd time. He's just dealing folks. 6 K's thru 2 1/3. Unfortunately, his outing ends on an oppo HR blast. All told, just an incredible outing. 1-1 tie ball game. Hugely successful showing, overall. The Brewers evaluators will be salivating.

Hey now, Zavi Warren! Capitalizes on a mistake pitch here off a red-hot Colton Gordon (Lefty in the Houston org) roping a gapper. Men on the corners now. 2 down. Still 1-1 in the 4th inning.

Well, if the Desert Dogs lose this game they can thank their defense on routine plays. Several extremely rough moments on very routine plays in a championship game can most definitely come back to bite you. An airmailed throw from the Red's prospect (McClain) playing SS (more naturally a 2B by my look) on a routine grounder ties the game at 2-2. Onto the 6th. Naturally, the runner had advanced to third base off two wild pitches.

Zavi Warren baby. Hits a beautiful oppo RBI line-drive single through the 1B/2B gap on a four-seamer rising and outside. A really nice shortened compact swing on that hit - showcasing why I consider him an advanced hit-tool prospect. It's not always about power, folks. That's the second beautiful piece of hitting from the up-and-coming multi-tool prospect. 4-2 Glendale here in the 6th inning. Warren is now 2-for-3 (2 1B, 1 K).

AND, just like that, that Glendale defense continues to drop that ball. Literally. Just truly weak middle infield/outfield play between McClain (Reds), Ramos (Dodgers)and Julien (Twins). Ugly stuff. Now 4-4 here in the 6th. This Glendale pitching staff deserves better. This is the 3rd lead Glendale has surrendered. Two of these squandered leads are directly related to errors up the middle - this doesn't include the Twins' Isola botched pop up near the dug out and then lackadaisical pursuit of McClain's errant throw (allowing the original tying run way back). You have to play tighter baseball in championship games.

And, Zavi Warren comes up clutch here in the 10th with another single. This time an oppo looper over the 3B side off of extremely tough Royals reliever Jonah Dipoto (yes, Jerry Dipoto's son). What a performance from Zavi here in the championship game. 5-4 Glendale.

Solid showing by Warren and Middendorf in the finale, in addition to Uribe’s work in Friday’s playoff game.

Too bad Quero didn’t get to show off his defense in either game, as they probably felt a need to allow the White Sox to have one position player in the lineup.

Middendorf and Warren getting some AFL Championship game notice: HERE

Quote

5. Ryan Middendorf, RHP, Brewers
He had pitched solely in relief since the Brewers signed him out of the independent Frontier League in June, but Middendorf acquitted himself well as an opener for the Desert Dogs. The sidearmer recorded six of his seven outs on strikeouts, thanks to a lively low-90s fastball and a tight slider, and pounded the zone with 32 strikes in 45 pitches.

(The movement they're discussing here is Middendorf's Four-Seamer versus his Sinker - both excellent offerings)

11. Zavier Warren, 3B/1B, Brewers
Warren went 3-for-5 with two RBI for Glendale, spraying singles to left, center and right field. He could have been the hero after driving in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th, but Acuña denied him by providing an equalizer in the bottom half.

I think Warren is going to be an interesting prospect to follow next year.  He should start in AA next year and if he has a good year he finishes in AAA.  Hopefully what we have seen in the AFL this year translates to AA next year and he starts to take off.  He may not be someone who will be an all star but a useful utility player is something I could see him becoming in MLB.

Saw an article summarizing some of the standouts in AZ, and Quero's defense was lauded.

The greatest compliments were given to Evan Reifert, whom the Brewers traded to the Rays to get Brosseau. Suggested he could be a high leverage reliever as soon as 2023.

If Warren were MLB ready now, there'd be a place for him on the team.
