This is a very cool development for current and former Milkmen players.  A realistic ability to turn an eye toward the coaching ranks.

Very very cool to see the Shuckers add so many faces to their staff for 2023!

Will Schierholz heads up to Double-A to work with the Shuckers' pitching staff after a fantastic first season of work in Wisconsin in 2022. He's joined by former Rattler's hitting coach Nick Stanley (bench coach in 2023), 2022 ACL Blue pitching coach Josh Spence (bullpen coach in 2023), and Christian Correa who will get his very first season in the affiliated coaching ranks after a championship season playing in the American Association (just a notch below the Atlantic League in terms of competition). I'm excite!

I suspect some behind-the-scenes discussion on whether franchises will be allowed to have 2 state-side rookie teams, like the Brewers, Giants, Diamondbacks and Astros did last year. The D-backs only announced minor league staff for full-season levels, while the Astros published a similar graphic as the Brewers (one state-side rookie level manager, but a lot of extra coaches). Don’t be surprised if they’re arguing about it with MLB and we may not know definitely ‘til May. image.jpeg

Here's a reminder on our thread about the possibility of a reduced Brewers Maryvale complex presence (two teams or one)?

I have reached out to Baseball America staff to see if they can provide some clarity on the situation.

(I don't know where to put this so feel free to move to the appropriate thread)

Very cool article here about Counsell's recent trip to the Dominican Republic. He visited the Brewers Baseball Academy outside Santo Domingo as well as Freddy Peralta's childhood home and the diamond where Wily Adames first signed a professional contract. He addressed everyone at the academy in Spanish - which, if you've ever done in a Spanish-speaking country, is no small feat. Hard not to love him as the Brewers manager.

Blake Nation is the new Development Coach for one of the DSL clubs. RH reliever Zach Vannaro should see time with Nashville this season.

They were together in their college wood bat summer league days in New York State.

Paul Moeller moves up to AA Bullpen Coach, though I’m not sure what this means for existing AA Bullpen Coach Josh Spence.

Prestigious appointment for the Mudcats' Manager in the Dominican Winter League, where standings are taken seriously by the locals for sure:

The @EscogidoBBClub  named Víctor Estevez today as their manager for the next season of the Dominican League. He is the manager of Carolina (Class A of #Brewers ) and until last winter he was the coach of @aguilascibaenas

SANTO DOMINGO.— The organization of Leones del Escogido announced this Tuesday that Victor Estevez will be the team’s leader for the 2023-24 season of the Dominican Republic’s Professional Baseball League.

The announcement was made by general manager Luis Rojas, who highlighted Estevez’s abilities.

“We are extremely excited to appoint Estevez as our manager. He impressed us a lot with his leadership qualities and knowledge of the game. These qualities are accompanied by significant experience in a variety of roles and leagues,” said Rojas.

Estevez, 34, is currently in his second season as manager of the Carolina Mudcats, the Class A branch of the Milwaukee Brewers, an organization for which he served as a coach for 10 years. Between 2016 and 2021 he was the manager of the Brewers team in the Dominican Summer League.

The Scarlets executive understands that Estevez will continue to grow within the Brewers franchise, as he has a “very high rating as a result of his professionalism.”

His experience includes the Colombian Professional Baseball League, where he guided the Vaqueros de Montería to the final series of the 2021–22 championship.

It will be a return to the Lions for Estevez, as he served as first base and infielders coach in the 2020–21 tournament. At Lidom he has also worked with Aguilas Sibeñas, taking on the role of quality control coach in the 2022-23 season.

“We are extremely proud to have him now with the Lions as manager as they look for their 17th crown next season,” Rojas said.

As a player, Estevez was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, participating in that organization’s minority circuit for four years.

Rojas indicated that the coaching staff that will accompany Estevez to the 16-time national champion will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Lions will officially introduce their new manager during the Major League Baseball All-Star break in July.

Translated article related to the Manager Victor Estevez news two posts above, photos at the link, as we see how the Mudcats Manager spent his All-Star break:

Estévez: "I assume this commitment with great responsibility"

SANTO DOMINGO - In his official presentation as the new manager of the Leones del Escogido, Victor Estevez, stated that his goal is to lead the scarlet team to the crown of champions.

"My expectations are very high and they are very firm. I have the faith that we can achieve it and that we are prepared to compete and obtain the 17th cup for the Escogido," said Estévez.

The new scarlet foreman thanked God for the opportunity received, as well as the Board and Operations management for trusting him to lead the club.

"This is a very big commitment that I assume with a lot of responsibility and character," he said.

The 34-year-old strategist pointed out that, to achieve the championship, communication will be very important for all team members to point towards the direction of returning the Escogido towards excellence.

"I'm a big believer in staying connected. Big teams that have championship culture are the ones that stay connected to engagement. To achieve great things you have to make sacrifices," he said.

Estevez said that he is already talking with the Escogido players, both native and veteran, and that he will remain in constant communication with them.

Estevez also explained that from day one he will work on the culture of the players and on the identification with the Escogido badge.

"I am a faithful believer in unity. That's what brings passion to teams. I will let the players know that we have to show the passion we have for the uniform, to win the crown. I will instill in them the commitment and responsibility of representing this organization," he said.

"This is going to create a healthy environment in the dressing room. If we have it, this will be transmitted to the pitch and we will give our best," he added.

Bonetti and Rojas speak

At the main table, Estevez was joined by José Miguel Bonetti Du-Breil and Fernando Armenteros, members of the Board of Directors of the Escogido Baseball Club, as well as Director of Operations Jaylon Pimentel and Operations Assistant Angel "Aroboy" Santana. General Manager Luis Rojas was via Zoom from New York City.

Estévez's father, Don Víctor Estévez, his mother, Mrs. Lidia Cruz, his wife, Marcia Rodríguez and his daughter Mariel Estévez accompanied the helmsman in the presentation (their photos at the link above).

"I am a faithful believer in what youth is. That dynamism, that hunger and that desire to win we have achieved with Estévez. We are very happy with him and the step we are taking is the new stage of what will be the Escogido, young and with a reformulated coaching staff, "said Bonetti Du-Breil before giving him an official shirt of the Escogido with the number 90.

For his part, Rojas explained that Estevez stood out among the candidates interviewed by El Escogido by impressing with his knowledge of the game and the Dominican autumn-winter circuit.

"He's a great student of the game, a growing mind and someone who works collaboratively, which is very healthy for the clubhouse. It was what we were looking for. It combines youth, energy and knowledge. The players are going to identify with him and he will lead us to the crown," Rojas said.
