Sounds’ Opening Night is Friday 3/31, at home vs. Louisville (Reds)!

(The other three full-season affiliates begin play on Friday April 7th, all on the road.)

The Nashville formal announcement this week will come directly from the Sounds, not the Brewers.

The other three affiliates will send out their press releases next week within an hour or so of each other once the Brewers have given them the official go-ahead to do so.

So, we are kicking off our Nashville thread today, the others in a week.

Feel free to link to any formal Sounds notices you see here.

Often, we learn via player tweets, who has been assigned where, prior to the formal affiliate announcements. We'll link to any of those posts in this thread as they come out.

As you might know, we use the "Your 2023" team threads to post and link to feature stories, including audio and video, that are outside the scope of game activity covered in the Daily Minor League Link Report.

These threads have become among the most popular for viewing here, and we look forward to kicking them off formally.

Please do not speculate on any player releases. Brewers Player Development or MiLB.com will update us formally.

RHP Luis Contreras will start off the season with Nashville.  With the number of pitchers in consideration for innings at the highest level, there was a chance he would be sent back to Biloxi to begin the campaign.

So what is the maximum number of players on a AAA roster?

It was 28 players last year, but there was no announcement this year! 😀

Pretty dang cool.

Agreed. Let’s get the calls right and then let the players play.

Our first bevy of interviews from the great Jeff Hem. We see a lone interview from the opening weekend 3-game set versus Louisville and a series of interviews from this recent 6-game series at Memphis. We hear from manager Rick Sweet twice, OF Sal Frelick, newcomer RHP Janson Junk, fast improving bullpen arm RHP Lucas Erceg, and LHP Ethan Small who has impressed in two of his three outings so far in 2023.

How has Frelick looked in his first 43 AB this year? Very few strikeouts but not much else.

Hiura seems to be doing what he does.

Blake Perkins seems to be performing, too.

Frelick has had a rough start. He had one of the best average EV in the system last year and he currently has an average EV around 83 which is really poor. Not very good contact from him.

Conversely, Perkins has had an amazing start and is pounding the crap out of the ball. His average EV before yesterday was 91 and all 3 of his balls in play yesterday had EV over 100.

Noticed that Hiura has completely ditched his leg kick. If he shows improvement with the K numbers, I’d be tempted to give him one more shot and drop Voit. He’s crushing the the ball as he usually does. Worth paying attention to going forward…

Perkins has been fantastic in every facet. He has such a smooth swing. Sal is fighting for everything right now. He's definitely overdoing it trying to overcome the slump. Thankfully, he's making plays in the OF.
