The first game of AAA Nashville’s doubleheader in Jacksonville is already underway, with RHP Caleb Boushley (5.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 in 50.1 IP) trying to give the team a 2-0 series lead. SS Cam Devanney has an 11-game on-base streak.

It's 2-0 Sounds early here - top of the 1st. A Patrick Dorrian double and an Eddy Alvarez sac fly have plated the two runs. Fantastic start. Consecutive single from Cam Devanney (who hit his 4th HR in game 1 - he's slowly heating up as he crushed a 447 footer to dead CF to break up the shutou) and Brian Navarreto have runners on 1st and 2nd with two down.

AND OF Roman Quinn walks the bases full. OF Monte Harrison will try to do some damage here. This could be a big big moment in Game 2. Well, that was unfortunate. Harrison ripped a 100 mph dart up the middle - directly off the foot of the pitcher. The ball ricocheted a good 9 feet but the pitcher was already headed that direction. Whew. That would have likely scored a couple. On to the bottom half for Gasser's first work.

Gasser's first inning:

  • Two pitch fly out to RF (0-1 count)
  • Five pitch walk
  • Two pitch weak chopper directly to 2B (0-1 count) - Alvarez makes a very weird play look very easy (it wasn't - bless his athletic prowess).

Gasser 2nd inning:

  • Nasty breaking ball grabs the very dangerous OF Jerar Encarnacion on an 0-2 count. K.
  • Nasty breaking ball on a 1-2 count cuts the inner stripe. Just plum nasty. K.
  • Falls to 2-0 on a fastball down and in. The breaking ball is earning the paycheck today grabs inside corner to 2-1 the count. Misses another nasty breaking ball what might have missed (if it did - several strikes lead me to believe the ABS may not be working?) by 2" called a ball high. Misses inner stripe on an inside breaker. 3-2 WALK.
  • Gets ahead 0-2. Foul. Induces a shallow liner on another inside breaking ball - Reed corrals easily.

Boy, did Eddy Alvarez lay down a beauty of a bunt down the 3B line - unexpected, I would add. He sends Devanney to 3B and the wild throw sends Devanney Home. 4-0 Sounds. Let's Go, men! Let's get game #3 of this series and take a 2-1 lead.

1B Noah Campbell rips an rbi groundball single past the diving glove of the Jumbo Shrimp 2B. It's 5-0. Runners on the corners. Two down. Winker to the dish.

Boy, the ABS system is working today. And, well, I am protesting today's AI takeover. 😅Winker goes down looking on a sinker that appeared to be outside and in the dirt (actually, it was). The Shrimp Catcher had to make a sliding stop into the righty batter's box. I am sensing sabotage. I've seen enough. Three pitches I'd like to take to Manfred and demand answers! ANSWERS, I say. 🤭

OF Michael Reed have a series. He just ripped his 2nd HR in three games in Jacksonville. He missed a HR earlier in the count when he got ahead of a breaking ball and a screamer hooked foul. He did not miss on a gorgeous golf swing liner over the RF wall. 6-0 Sounds. This is very fun early. 104 mph off the bat.

Brian Navarreto beats a double play grounder by a good three feet. Doesn't matter. The Minor League field umps just like calling outs. Wasn't even close. My goodness. That's at least three absolutely blown calls gone against the Brewers system this week - steals, CS, DP balls etc. Yikes. You tell me if you think the ball beat that foot? Ummmm

Did I mention this is FUN? Whew. 1B Noah Campbell rips another absolute smash over the RF wall. The lefties are just ripping today. 8-0. Heck yeah, Noah!

Carolina banged up a bit.  Lara came out of last night's game early and is out of the lineup for game 1 today.  Hopefully nothing serious.  Guilarte has been out for a couple of weeks now.

This is just an awesome second game. OF Michael Reed just ripped a first-pitch liner into shallow LF. Men on 1st and 2nd. One down. 8-0. 9 hits. We are in the top of the 5th. Put it in my veins.

Wasn’t Lara ejected? Regardless, even with the return of the two pitchers today, their injured list seems to rival the Brewers’ in length.

He was ejected after a blown call in the 8th inning. It was a wild pitch. He slid in and beat the tag. He was ticked off (rightfully so). Manager Victor Estevez came out heated (he never does that). It was a 6-3 ball game at that point and he thought he stole a run in a wild wild pitch sequence. You love the passion.

I'll bet you 99.99% it's a 'Take a break and reset.' game for him. AND, it is a double-header.

Yes. See my post. I'm near certain it's just a breather.

Got it!  Good news, thanks!

A really good thing (if not frustrating as heck) is Gasser gives up some of the absolute weakest hits in the system. We're talking dribblers, bloop flies. He just doesn't give up much hard contact. He is really really starting to come on. He may give up a run here in the 5th but we have a weak weak chopper to 3B where Dorrian loses the ball on transfer charging it. Then, Eddy Alvarez gets an absurd high chopper he charges and the ball sails past 1B in a rushed throw. Men on the corner. On the first pitch to old Shucker nemesis Victor Victor Mesa the first hard hit ball of the day (albeit still only 90 mph) leaves the yard. 8-3 Sounds.

Awful batted ball sequence for Gasser here. 90 EV HR is just hilarious

The Jacksonville porch is what we might term 'shallow'. Lotta like 350 foot HR BLASTS. He just gave up his 2nd HR that may have been hit even weaker. It was a pop fly that probably doesn't leave the park in Cincy. Nope. 90 mph again340 Feet. 😅

Even with a short porch those balls are carrying a ridiculous amount. 90 EV balls should never be going out of the park.
