21-year old RHP Edwin Jimenez (2.10 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 10.3 K/9 in 51.1 IP) and the High-A Timber Rattlers need a victory in the finale at Great Lakes to tie the series 3-3. CF Joe Gray Jr. has a .894 OPS thus far in June (63 PAs).

LHP Robert Gasser (4.65 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 in 62 IP) seeks his 4th straight win, which would give AAA Nashville a 6-0 home sweep of Gwinnett. CF Sal Frelick is 5-for-11 with a HR, 2B, 3 BBs, 5 RBIs, 2 SBs and 5 runs since his return.

The Low-A Mudcats also trail their series 3-2 (in Augusta) and give 22-year RHP Will Childers (4.15 ERA with 7 Ks in 8.2 IP) his 1st start (3rd appearance) since joining the Brewers. 3B Luke Adams leads the team in runs, doubles, homers, RBIs, walks and stolen bases.

Jimenez gives up a 2 out triple a couple of pitches after Ernesto Martinez drops a pop-up in foul territory. Jimenez avoids damage, but my goodness the defense at 1B in Wisconsin and Carolina this season would leave you thinking 1B is the hardest defensive position in the sport.

Martinez with another horrible defensive play at 1B abandoning the base and leaving Jimenez stuck in no-man's land with no play at 1B.

It's the 2nd inning and Martinez has already cost the Rattlers 2 outs.

Childers gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, lasting just one inning for the Mudcats. Thankfully Jesus Parra re-set the game in the 2nd inning with a 3-run blast.

RHP Quinton Low has entered to pitch the 2nd inning, walking the first two batters. Could be a long game…

The AA Shuckers also need to win the finale (in Montgomery) to salvage a 3-3 series tie. RHP Christian Mejias gets the start, trying to get his poor ERA (5.37) to match his solid other numbers (1.25 WHIP, 11.4 K/9 in 55.1 IP). DH/OF Tristen Lutz is quietly mashing in June (1.061 OPS in 45 PAs).

What a turnaround for Wisconsin, scoring 5 runs on 6 hits in the 7th inning to grab an 8-6 lead against formidable Great Lakes. We’re outhitting them 13-5, with 3 apiece for Robert Moore and Ernesto Martinez

Carolina’s trailing Augusta 7-4 in the 6th inning, despite out-hitting them 10-7. Gonna have to make a late surge. It’ll be Lara, Hedbert, Nicasia and Adams in the 7th inning.

Well, they didn’t come through in the 7th inning, but got another chance in the 9th: Lara 7-pitch walk, Hedbert 2-run homer. Mudcats trail 8-7 with nobody on, nobody out. Nicasia, Adams, Areinamo up.

Nicasia and Adams each got ahead 3-1, but struck out. Then Areinamo got behind 0-2, took one ball and…

…smacked his first home run of 2023, a solo shot to left field to tie the game 8-8!! And he KNEW it!

Go Mudcats!

Wisconsin came back to claim a 10-8 victory. Carolina also came back to win 12-9 in 10 innings.

But it’s an entirely different affair in Nashville. 0-0 in the 8th inning. Each team with 4 hits.

How absolutely solid and consistent had INF Eddy Alvarez been in 2023? Just so steady. Another in the long line of: definitely deserves a chance with the Brewers. He is having such a fantastic season:

** A moment so good Daniel and I will both share it. Woot woot. Let's Go!😄

And, on the heels of another extremely successful 6 IP outing for LHP Robert Gasser (averaging 6.5 IP over his past 4 outings - each one a quality start), I want to simply focus on how tremendous LHP Clayton Andrews is and has been. Just check out this filthy change-up:

Stud. Plain stud.

On this Father's Day - a day in which I have been scampering to put frost cover on my many of my hot weather crops...yeah this mountain valley is fierce (three straight days of likely light frosts in late June is not ideal on the seasonal menu!) - I want to give great thanks for how good we have it as Brewers Minor League baseball fans. We are spoiled. The coverage we experience on a nightly basis across the system - from the broadcast booths to the affiliate write-ups and highlights - is a real blessing for those of us who can't get enough of the lower levels. I never take this for granted and I hope y'all don't either.

Here's to a healthy end to the first half and a second half beyond our wildest dreams!

P.S. Nashville completed the six-game sweep (first since May of 2021)...apparently, they also did so in front of three consecutive sell-outs. Do you think this city is ready for an expansion team?

Ah, the Shuckers made the Biscuits sweat in the 9th inning, bringing one run home (Jackson Chourio - who walked with 2 strikes and 2 outs) on a wild pitch and getting the potential game-tying run on 2nd base (Tyler Black, who singled), but Noah Campbell was unable to play hero in striking out to end it.

Biloxi drops the game 6-5 and the series 4-2, suddenly possessing a 4-game losing streak. Shoot!

All squads really battled this week. Once again, our full season affiliates are within one game of a combined record of .500. Of course, our DSL and ACL squads are off to terrific starts.

I look ate Martinez' stats recently and ooof are they bad.  I think this might be the last year for him in the Brewers org, I believe he will be a minor league FA this off season?

If Barrios and Perez can keep up their recent hitting and Areinamo can show some extra-base pop like he did today with more regularity, that Carolina offense gets a lot more interesting.
