As someone else posted, hope you like intentional walks. One really, really, really great hitter isn't going to prop up the crap that is the the bottom half of this lineup.

I mean... I can't say that's wrong. Any prolonged Brewers run is going to require some temporary hot-ness from a few hitters in October. But that's kinda the case no matter what.

I'd be terrified. The cost would be high for a short-term rental since re-signing is very iffy at best... and we'd see the Angels get our prospects.

I'd pass at this point. OTOH, I have no problem reaching out during free agency and making an offer then, especially if Tyler Black is coming up at third. The Crew could put Ohtani at DH/in the rotation, even offer him some action at first base and the corner OF, and Milwaukee's a great baseball town.

How would the Ohtani deal be compared to the CC Sabathia trade?  I believe Ohtani would provide more value because of his bat.  The Sabathia trade was a point where the Brewers really proved they wanted to go for it.  The Indians made out on it with Brantley.  One of the pieces that would be traded for Ohtani would probably become the next Brantley.

The Sabathia trade wound up being purely a volume trade and that was the only reason it wound up working out ok for Tribe - LaPorta was the centerpiece and he wound up busting.  The pitchers sent back to Cleveland (Bryson and Zach Jackson) were AAAA fodder, too.  Brantley was viewed as the throw-in and wound up being by far and away the best MLB player sent to Cleveland in that deal.

For Ohtani, I think you'd need to include a big MLB-ready arm with a ton of team control (Uribe, for example), then an impact position player prospect that appears on the verge of being ready (Quero or Black), plus a good pitching prospect in the low minors and a lottery ticket.

Brantley was the last player named, but that slot was never for a throw in.

The PTBNL was always going to be the 2nd best player in the deal. Believe it was reportedly between Lucroy, Brantley and Taylor Green depending on how certain conditions of the trade played out.

I remember it being either Green or Brantley.

Anyway, this would be two CC trades' worth. Of course Ohtani would provide more value for his bat - you're trading for two superstar players that happen to inhabit one body. Take any major deadline trade for a superstar and double it.

Would it be fun? Yes. Would it hurt? Absolutely.

How would you feel about it if the trade was centered around Burnes?  For example;

That trade would have very little value to the Angels, as good as Burnes is, compared to the offers they could get from other teams were Ohtani to be put on the market. Young, controllable talent galore.
