Mon. 8/21 - Next-to-last DSL Games, A Maryvale Season Finale Matinee (Pre-playoffs)

DSL Brewers 1 have been in some type of funk at the plate as a team lately. They haven’t scored more than 2 runs as a team since August 12th. For a team that was above .500 for much of the DSL season, a loss today guarantees them to finish the season under .500

INF Demetrio Nadal put a nice cherry on top of his 2023 DSL campaign: 4-for-5, triple, 3 RBIs, SB.

Each of RHPs Bryan Rivera, Aneuris Rodriguez and Eric Prado had terrific final outings, combining on 13 scoreless innings with 15 Ks across their two games today.

The ACL Brewers weren’t able to hold a 4-0 lead in their regular season finale, dropping the game to ACL Giants Black 7-4 on a 3-run walk-off homer in the 9th inning.

Positives: DH Alexander Perez (2 singles, RBI), rehabbing CF Eduarqui Fernandez (double, walk, RBI, SB), RHP Daniel Corniel (2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K).

Notably absent and likely (my guess) to feature in the upcoming playoff game(s): Cooper Pratt, Juan Baez, Satchell Norman, Edgardo Ordonez, Miguel Briceno, Manuel Rodriguez, rehabbing Joseph Hernandez.

Hope someone here can verify this, but the ACL Brewers would play at the ACL Rockies in the 1 game semifinal playoffs correct? Because we are the 4 seed by record and the ACL Rockies are the 1 seed?

If that is true it is awesome because the ACL Rockies have statcast data at their home park, so we should get to see some EV and pitch metrics! Somewhat less awesome is how amazing the ACL Rockies have been with a 39-15 record and +191 run diferential (2nd best run differential in the ACL is +63 for comparison)

To be fair, that Rockies team’s average hitter is roughly as old as the average Timber Rattlers hitter (oldest in ACL) and their average pitcher is older than the average Mudcats pitcher (third oldest in ACL).

Yeah definitely an advantage there. It’s something that goes a bit under the radar with our system that outside of AAA we have some of the youngest teams in their respective leagues.

ACL - 5th youngest hitting, 2nd youngest pitching

A - 2nd youngest hitting, 4th youngest pitching

A+ - 5th youngest hitting, 3rd youngest pitching

AA - Youngest hitting (by almost half a year), 4th oldest pitching

So of those 4 teams, Biloxi’s pitching staff is the only group that’s in the top half of the league in age.

Exciting in particular to see Prado. I saw reports he was throwing in the 91-93 MPH range as a 15 year old and touching 95.

He's 17 now, that was the one snippet I've found on him, but he's got projectable Right Arm, he looks/sounds like he can become a legitimate pitching prospect.

Love seeing a line like that. 4IP 1H 0BB, 5K.

Rivera did him one better and was throwing 92-94 when he agreed to sign(so again, before 16) but it was his secondary stuff...at the time of signing that had the Brewers excited, and he had an outstanding outing. Listed at 6'3(which appears to be a big generous). But a really good change, and an exciting curve.

Nothing on Aneuris Rodriguez beyond he was a young, projectable arm and he also threw 4 SH innings with a K per IP. So pretty fun night from the DSL!
