So you didn't pick them to beat UConn then?

Correct - Though, I think I would still win if Marquette beats UCONN in the ship.  Obviously need to do well this week.

You're seeing now why it was foolish to overlook this NC State team. We're in serious trouble, especially if we continue to slump shooting the ball that has been this team's bugaboo all season. Kolek is singlehandedly keeping this from being a laugher so far.

No, it’s a laugher.

A 13 point deficit at halftime isn't a laugher. Teams can overcome those deficits to win. However, it ain't happening tonight. NC State played with more energy and Marquette's biggest weakness did them in and ended their season tonight. Just disappointing.

Yeah I know I just get negative in game especially in basketball . Disappointing for sure, I really thought Marquette had a surprise champion look this season.

Enjoyed watching Marquette this year. They missed tons of open shots tonight. Jones and Kolek are really good, but they needed a third scorer. I don't know if Duke or Houston will win, but both those teams would've been very tough matchups.

Program's in a good place, though!

Defensively Marquette played well enough to win. That was the worse shooting performance in some time. Very frustrating way to go out. It’s impossible to win when you go 4-31 from 3 and 20-60 from the field. Doesn’t matter who you play

Tough for Marquette to blow being a #2 two seasons in a row…and honestly I thought they were a pretty strong #2 both times. To lose to the #11 on top of it, oof.

Shaka and Marquette both ended their long Sweet 16 droughts…but that will hardly feel like a success story going into the offseason.

Yeah, that's what sucks about having one bad game and the season being over, but...seems like it was a pretty damn good year to me...though I get you're looking for a better outcome.

What's Marquette's '24-'25 roster look like?

Kolek, Oso and Jones all leaving for the draft? Is this a bit of a re-tooling year or...what are we thinking?

Jones may leave, but I think is more likely he stays.

Looking like

Starting 5: Jones, Ross, Mitchell, Joplin, Gold

Bench: Lowrey, Norman, Owens, Hamilton, Parham

What a fantastic player. Good luck to him

Of course there's some bias as I watch him more, but I really like Kolek early Rd2 if he's there for the Bucks. He seems like the type who could come in right away, be the backup PG, play solid defense, but mostly on offense camp out, and knock down some corner 3s.

I agree, the bucks could use a guy like him. NBA teams always seem to draft on potential and shy away from upperclassman because they want to build the next Giannis. The bucks window is rapidly closing so getting an Oso or Kolek that can help on day 1 shouldn't be considered a bad thing.

He’s absolutely an NBA prospect. Kid can shoot. Probably be helpful for him to work on his mid range game and finishing at the rim stronger

Its going to be interesting to see how this affects schools like Marquette and the rest of the BE. While not in "power 5", most (sorry DePaul) of the schools are big players in college basketball. I know NIL is there, but if there is another revenue stream that Marquette can't utilize, its not a good omen.

ESPN says this is great, I don't agree. I'd love to see if others are as pessimistic as me on what this means for the sport.

The Big East should be fine.  While they don't have a huge TV contract right now it is about $4m per team.  That TV contract ends after the '24-'25 season.  I think they could easily top the 12-year $500m contract the Big East signed previously.  UConn and Villanova are the two biggest TV draws in the Big East for TV ratings.

I think the Big East could get a rather large TV contract and it should be more per school than what the schools are getting now.  Though this could be lower as the schools will need to share this with the players now.  The Big East won't get the same money as the B10 gets because of the football TV contracts are far more lucrative.

The Big East should be in the middle somewhere and should be fine.

@nate82what I’m unclear on is if Marquette would have the ability to pay their players the 20 million allotment, like the power 5 schools have. No idea if Marquette would opt in. But if they can they are in much better shape than Wisconsin that would have to spit it between football, basketball, hockey and volleyball. Marquette just have basketball to be honest

Curious on that 20 million number and how it is expected to be distributed.  I just kinda skimmed the article a bit and didn't see an answer,  but would the school be dividing that number by their X athletes and distributing it evenly or could they give 10m to like a Caleb williams or something.

Remember what Yoda said:

It is up to the schools to do what they want with it.  They could allocate it all to one player if they wanted to.  There are going to be a lot of legal challenges with this.  Football and men's basketball will get the bigger share of the revenue.  UW will have a harder time than Marquette in terms of who to pay and who not to pay or to pay very little.

Marquette will just have to divide its revenue up between the Men's and Women's basketball teams getting the majority of the share with the other athletics getting whatever is left over volleyball probably getting a bigger share than the other sports.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2024/05/25/ncaa-lawsuit-settlement-revenue-sharing-legal-questions/73843373007/

I am wondering if Marquette will start to have a flag football team as this has been increasing in popularity and it will be a sport in the LA Summer Olympics.  Would need a Men's and Women's team so that could possibly cut into the revenue a bit but I don't think it would be all that much.
