Aside from the heated back and forth between a few posters when it comes to what CC said about being a Brewer and loving Milwaukee etc. the way I think of it is, people that get married aren't likely envisioning a divorce in their future. Yet divorce still happens and is not uncommon, It's not difficult to imagine that CC had some personal reasons, whatever they are, that led to him feeling ok about managing somewhere other than Milwaukee.

Yeah, part of fandom is to "hate" on other teams, players, managers, mascots, the chick that sits in the front row behind home plate yadda yadda yadda. We all get it. We all do it. We often even "hate" players on our own team!

So hate away. I know I will. I just don't have any issue or hurt feelings with CC's decision to leave. There's no extra hate there on my end. But he's now with the Cubs, I hate the Cubs, I often hate whomever is managing the Cubs, so I plan on not liking CC very much for the foreseeable future. There's every likelihood that feeling will only intensify as time passes.

Question for the mods - instead of ignoring/blocking posters, is there a way to ignore entire threads?

Not yet but it is a feature we're considering adding. I've had a few requests for it but the tech is kinda tricky in surprising ways, not sure when we will get to it.

I came up with a way..... don't click on it.

The divorce isn't really that bad. We had great years with him and it was time to try something new. It was more divorcing us to go marry our big brother that has more money that caused the hate. If he left for Cleveland or the Mets then I think pretty much everyone is over it already and the original backlash wouldn't have probably been non-existent.

Without the blue... I was wondering the same thing. I don't click on threads that don't interest me.

I'm not even sure I'd say "divorce"... marriages typically include a vow of "til death do we part", so there is an expectation of that.  But this is frankly... changing jobs.  I've had 3 of them over 29 years.  Sometimes you need something new.

I do think the way he went about it was a bit crappy... and going to the Cubs (or Cardinals if he'd have done that) was REALLY crappy.  But Favre played for the Vikings and people eventually (reluctantly?) forgave him.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Of course, this is all in the context of sports fandom, nobody is saying Counsell leaving has ruined their life or anything but people saying Brewer fans shouldn't feel a certain type of way towards Counsell are ignoring the basic human nature. Counsell grew up a Brewer fan and in the city of Milwaukee and then left to go to their biggest rival and called it his "dream job". Of course most Brewer fans are going to be upset about that and most humans would react in a similar manner. Counsell is an adult who is free to make decisions on his own accord and you're right that he doesn't know who I am and he doesn't know who you are but trying to tell people how they should or shouldn't feel about it is just odd to me.

I understand. Though, I think hating someone for simply exercising their right to change their mind, is also odd. There's definitely things to hate people over, but imo, them changing their mind isn't 1 of them. Hating someone for changing their mind, isn't that basically the hater telling Counsell how he should've felt in Milwaukee?

I hate the cubs and he's a cub.  So for me that part is really simple.  I always liked CC but I don't anymore.  Many have brought up the wondering what the disconnect was between CC and the Brewers FO, and I also wonder but I'm not going to speculate.

In retrospect, this whole fiasco shouldn't surprise anyone really, because in today's messed up world, some people seem to spend each day just ACHING to find something to hate someone over. No matter how miniscule it is, or how little it actually affects them personally.

I get that - but what's frustrating is for a thread that has alot of good discussion/points and is at the top of the forum scroll to get walked down a rabbit hole of nonsense after clicking on it.  Instead of another fresh page or two or substantive posts about the topic that is interesting and worth me clicking on to read, it's a urinating contest that just leads to me forgetting about this site for a day or two when I'd otherwise be engaged with baseball-related topics this time of year.

Why do I feel this post is projecting. Weren't you done with this thread, on more than one occasion?

I don't really care about Craig Counsell anymore. I hope the Cubs lose more games than they win for the next decade. It's not as bad as Favre going to the Vikings, but that marriage ended in spectacular fashion.

Are you trying to stoke the fire? If so, stop. And no, it was on 1 occasion. Why do I feel like I'm being thought of as the only person in that fiasco that did wrong? That wouldn't be even remotely true. I was accused of derailing the thread. The only thing I derailed, was some people's opinions. Have a nice night.
