Looking back at the draft there was only one place where I really, really wanted a pick that we passed on.

That was selecting Hopper in the 3rd round over Payton Wilson. I loved Wilson. Just a force on the field.

...

Of course, we don't know any of this. Just hoping we are being smart. I don't like it when we get over infatuated with a player. It makes the team make some reaches.

Isn't getting infatuated what you were doing with Wilson? (And I'm not saying "gotcha", just making conversation.)

Judge not another man's man-crush(es). 😂

Hopper just gives me too many Owen Burke vibes.  So I'm waiting to see him play before I try to expect too much.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Getting infatuated with a player and reaching for that player is my criticism. If you want a player so badly that you draft them one or two rounds earlier than their value - that's the danger.

I don't think Wilson was a reach as a late 3rd round pick. One could argue he was an excellent value at that slot. That's the sort of thing we should be looking to do.

I'd be with you if this was just about Wilson. I'm a big fan, thought he was a great nickel backer and physical enough at the point.

But...how can anyone say a guy was drafted a round or two earlier than they were supposed to go...-especially when we know the team that took Wilson, wanted Hopper. Or at the very least, there are reports the Eagles and Steelers were going to take Hopper.

But, irrespective of that, I seem to remember the same things being said about Love, Gary among others. Maybe not that they could have gotten them a full rd later, but that they could have gotten them later, could have traded back, didn't need to trade up.

He's not who I'd have taken, but that's been the case plenty and the only thing I know is that Gute is hitting for a much higher BA than I or most fans
