The Burnes trade is done and if you believe Arnold, we are still planning on competing in 2024. We have to assume that we can use Burnes' salary (15.6 mil) to improve the team.

Miami would be a good team to trade with as they have a couple of intriguing younger pitchers that they might part with and a huge need at shortstop.

Marlins: Brice Turang, Freddy Zamora and Round B Comp Balance Pick

Brewers: Edward Cabrera

This would give the Brewers another young and cost controlled pitcher. The Marlins have a lot of great starting pitching but absolutely nothing for a shortstop (seriously, take a look). Turang can provide value defensively and hopefully progress with the bat.

Free agent signing: Jorge Soler, 2 years and 30 million. (similiar setup to Hoskins, 12 mil the first year with a player option and buyout)

Free agent signing: Donovan Solano, 1 year and 6 million

Lineup

LF Yelich

C Contreras

1B Hoskins

DH Soler

SS Adames

CF Mitchell/Chourio

3B Solano/Black

RF Frelick

2B Ortiz

Bench: Haase, Monasterio, Perkins, Solano/Black

Lots of versality with this group. Solano would be like old friend Hernan Perez playing all over the diamond. This would allow some extra time for Black and Ortiz to get their feet wet in the majors. We would have a lot more power and the best up the middle defense in MLB. If Soler is too expensive, maybe bring in Gary Sanchez for one year.

Rotation

Peralta

Miley

Cabrera

Rea

Hall

Ross

Bullpen

Williams, Payamps, Peguero, Milner, Megill, Uribe, Wilson

The rotation isn't nearly as good as in year's past but hopefully we will have a more balanced approach with a better lineup. With Gasser, Rodriguez, and Ashby in AAA, we are setup once inevitiably someone gets hurt or is ineffective.

This team would have a good chance of making the playoffs and would be setup to contend in future years as well.

This could be the worse rotations in recent history. Matt better have another move

You do remember six years ago when Chacin was far and away our best starter on, yep, a brewer playoff team, right?

Sure. Are you suggesting however that because something happens once, we should expect it will work out the same way again? There's no denying that this current rotation is paper thin and full of question marks.

What im saying is Peralta is a tad better than Chacin and to let this play out, as I believe the team is still a contender to win the NLC or a strong wildcard candidate.   There is more to come to aid our starting staff.   We will be fine this year and the future years are now much brighter.

Right, but there’s a gaping schism twixt “thin” or “full of question marks” and “worst rotations in recent history”.

Corbin Burnes. chipped in 3.4 fWAR to a rotation that was 13th in MLB last year at 11.2 fWAR.

The worst rotations in recent memory would be teams like 2022 WAS (-1.4 fWAR), 2023 OAK (1.1 fWAR), or 2021 CHC (2.1 fWAR).

FanGraphs currently projects the Brewers rotation for 11.1 WAR in 2024.

It would take an Rube Goldberg Machine of unfortunate events for the Brewers to end up with one of the worst rotations in recent history.

The hyperbole is certainly running rampant the last couple days. It's almost as if trading Burnes signifies that the team will now be run like the Pirates, and not like the team that has become known for making quality pitchers out of has beens and never wases. Burnes has been excellent. No doubt about that. But he was always only a piece of the overall puzzle. Many of the other pieces are still in place, as is the organizational foundation to create replacement pieces for those lost.

Putting on my GM hat, I would use the money saved from Burnes and sign DH/1B Brandon Belt (still crushes RHP, good complement to Hoskins to start a few games at 1B), and SP Jakob Junis (should be cheap with as much upside as some of the bigger name SPs left on the market).

Adames/Ortiz/Black/Turang/Monasterio fill out the rest of the infield in flexible pairings based on matchups and keeping everyone fresh.

Yelich/Chourio/Felick/Mitchell/Wiemer do the same in the outfield and at DH.

Peralta/Miley/Hall/Junis are locks in the rotation, with some upside options in the fifths spot and depth throughout the season in Gasser/Ashby/Ross/Rea.

I'd think if the Brewers sign Belt, 1B & DH are covered pretty much every day.  In that case, OFs guys aren't getting much DH time at all, in which case do we really want two of Wiemer, Mitchell, Frelick, & Chourio sitting on the bench everyday?  At least one of those four, if not two, should be playing daily in AAA while Perkins & Roller are bench guys.  At this point, too, signing an affordable veteran OF with some pop who can provide good ABs and can be a good role player would be a logical signing (as of today, I'd guess Bauers isn't that guy).

i t seems the Brewers going to need to win games with Hitting. I sorry we have to hope that Miley stays healthy and pitching holds up. Ashby has to prove he can handle the wear and tear of starting.

The  combo of Rea and Ross scare the hell out of me in this rotation
