A 3rd straight home win over Myrtle Beach would give Low-A Carolina a 4-2 series win. 21-year old RHP Josh Timmerman makes his 7th appearance (5th start) - 4.24 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 11.6 K/9 in 23.1 IP. Team AVG and OPS leader LF Yhoswar Garcia returns to the lineup after a day off.

Good start for the Mudcats. Juan Baez smacked his first homer of the year (solo shot). Yhoswar Garcia has 3 stolen bases, a single, RBI and run scored thru 3 innings.

Josh Timmerman hasn’t been that sharp, but has stranded 5 baserunners.

Carolina 3, Myrtle Beach 0 in the 4th inning.

Hmmm. CF Yophery Rodriguez caught a fly ball in the top of the 4th inning and he’s now replaced in the bottom half. I doubt this was planned.

24-year old RHP Tyler Woessner has had mixed results since the promotion to AAA, but gets a chance to finish off Nashville’s 6-0 home sweep of Charlotte. Of the players with the top 100 PAs in the International League, RF Brewer Hicklen’s .989 OPS ranked 6th.

It is nice to see Baez getting some results the last couple days. He already has the lowest strikeout rate of any full season minor league hitter.

High-A Wisconsin looks to end a rough week in South Bend on a positive note. 22-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle has an 18-inning scoreless streak with 17 Ks. SS Jadher Areinamo has a 7-game hitting streak.

Quite a choice to follow Jesus Rivero with Cristofher Carrasco in the 7th inning. The Mudcats’ entered the inning leading 5-2 and left it trailing 8-5. They ultimately lost 8-7 and split the series this week. Shoot!

Luis Castillo hit 2 solo homers. We’ll await word (if any) on Yophery Rodriguez’s status, as he exited early.

RHP Bradley Blalock (2.27 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 in 35.2 IP) makes his first appearance in 11 days, hoping to help Biloxi end their 5-game losing streak at home against Birmingham. 3B Brock Wilken has a 6-game hitting streak.

Tyler Black having a game to forget defensively at 1B and it's only the 3rd inning.

Which plays should he have made?

Ground ball hit really close to him that he misread and overplayed. Was just changed to an error. That lead to a run. Ground ball to him with runners on the corners and 1 out that he bobbled which prevented the inning ending double play,

Tough luck for Woessner then - 2 unearned runs. Black (and Hicklen had an error in right) will need to make it up offensively.

Dunno who’s in charge of picking the three letter MiLB acronyms but I feel like maybe CHR would have been a better choice than CLT for Charlotte.

CLT is Charlotte's airport code. Guessing that's why CLT is used.

Yup. Was just about to post the same thing.

Oof. Tough loss for Carolina.

I can’t watch milb tv right now. But how is Woessner looking?
Encouraging BB:K rates.  Bunch of hits and only 1 ER - with the errors resulting in 2 unearned runs.

Blalock minimizes the damage with no runs after a hit and an error. Biloxi hitless ….  Yet to bat ha ha .  But I am so used to seeing zeros for them

Well, whoever is in charge of picking airport codes then.

I’ll refrain from making any landing strip jokes.

Nobody in the Southern League is good enough to lose to six straight times at home. Biloxi's first half just continues to go the further South. There just really aren't many storylines whatsoever coming out of that clubhouse. They are now 9 games under 0.500. I blame the camera situation - which adds further reasons why you struggle to rationalize watching.

With a 1-2 count, Jimenez throws it in the dirt and prevents a throw from Home while the Cubs execute the double steal. That was a big moment. A single can now tie it.

Jeeeeze. 1-2 count. 8th pitch of the AB. Jimenez plunks him dead center in his upper back. My goodness. Rough rough look. He had him 0-2. 8-pitch AB. Plunks him to load the bases.

And, after a very strange looking heater (in terms of arm action) that tailed well outside on the first pitch, Jimenez called out the trainer. He's pulled. He may have injured his throwing arm there. Sheeeesh. Forced pitching change. What a hand to deal RHP Stiven Cruz. Jimenez's body language was really downtrodden and no energy leaving the field.

Just a rough rough series of events.

  • Jimenez beans the very dangerous Morel in a 2-2 count (pitch 8) at 4:34:10 on the replay
  • The wild heater (tailing outside to the next batter, a lefty) and the ensuing call to the Trainer happens at 4:34:48

After re-watching that entire ordeal, that was just a really weird sequence of events. The walk-off with manager Victor Estevez looked awkward.
