After 3.75 months of injury and rehab, 21-year old RHP Ryan Birchard (2023 fifth round pick) returns to Low-A Carolina, who seek to finish off a 4-2 series win at Salem. LF Luis Castillo is 4th in the Carolina League in home runs and RBIs.

Through 5 innings, the Timber Rattlers have produced 2 singles and 2 walks, with nobody reaching second base. They trail Beloit 2-0.

Will Rudy has thrown 92 pitches, so it’s likely bullpen time.

RHP Jacob Misiorowski threw 84 pitches 5 days ago and will be back the mound today for AA Biloxi, which needs a win at Pensacola to forge a 3-3 series tie. LF Lamar Sparks has a .975 OPS in 72 July PAs, while Carlos D. Rodriguez is absent from the lineup after being a late scratch yesterday.

They got two singles (Fernandez, Garcia) and a HBP (who else but Adams), and get a run on a Wood grounder (FC 3-6), but strand a couple of runners, it’s 2-1 deficit- on to the bottom of the 8th.

Eduarqui Fernandez singled and scored in Wisconsin’s 8th inning, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Ramon Rodriguez, Tayden Hall and Jheremy Vargas are due up in the 9th.

A hit and a walk.  Then the TRats do some atypical things for this club. First Vargas- who is usually so fundamentally sound - flails with a bunt attempt at the first pitch, then foul bunts the next. And strikes out. A wild pitch moves the runners and Edaurqui with a big hit but for some reason on a shallow single to RF then send Hall (who is not particularly speedy) and the Beloit announcer puzzled that he was sent, and he out by 10 feet. Another wild pitch then Lara skies it to LF but under it enough that the LF hauls it in in the corner. Tied game but could have been much more.

Mudcats have tacked on more and were up 7-1 with Burchard pitching in the second.

Castillo may be our second best power / HR hitter in the organization.  Not overly big, but he does provide the Mudcats with that power element.

Eduardo Garcia double drove in the Manfred Mann, Luke Adams HBP (another two walk, two plunk game for Luke), Jose Acosta sac bunt and a two RBI Felix Valerio single gives the TRats a three run lead heading to bottom of ten.

Eduardo Garcia and Felix Valerio produced clutch hits in the 10th inning for a 5-2 lead.

RHP Bayden Root stays in for a 3rd inning? Oh my. I was surprised when Yerlin and Manfredi each covered only one inning in a tight game. C’mon Bayden!

Bayden clearly struggling. First batter gapped into RF that Lara tracks down.  Then a single to bring in the run. Then a walk.  Winning run coming to the plate. Root already at 40 pitches.

And Chase Costello enters. 2 on, 1 out winning run at the plate. Let’s go Chase.

Carolina putting together another big inning top of four.

Juan Baez double, Cooper Pratt HBP, Daniel Guilarte RBI single (wild pitch), Luis Castillo RBI groundout, and a Reece Walling sac fly has the score at 10 to 1 Mudcats.

Mudcats - nice - offense is alive today.

TRats hold on. After building the 5-2 lead in the 10th, they had the bases loaded (a stolen base led to a IBB on Hall) with one out, and grounder to pitcher who goes home for the 2nd, then a fly out (or grounder now I can’t remember), and the bases are left loaded.

Roots was not sharp, but Costello goes K and grounder and slams the door. big Win TRats!

Sees the Mudcats score is now 12 to 3.

Thinks to self, no way Luis Castillo drove in two more for an 8 RBI day.

Checks the log…Luis Castillo two run HR, now up to 8 RBI thru six innings.

That is 18 RBI for the month .... but 14 of those in the past three games WOW!

Looks like Salem intentionally threw at Castillo. Pitcher had no command issues in the inning outside of hitting Castillo with a pitch that was thrown behind him?

Misio gets the first two batters of the third on a pop out and strikeout.

Walk, errant pickoff throw and HBP has now put runners on the corners, and Jacob gets a fly out to keep things even at zero each.

Biloxi bats have gone nine up nine down the first trip through.

Dylan O’Rae single, Brock Wilken walk, Connor Scott RBI single, Wilken to 3rd on a Lamar Sparks fly out and a wild pitch have Biloxi up 2 to 0 top of five.

Misio went popout, lineout, walk in the fourth before being lifted for Will Childers who got the K to end the inning.
