24-year old RHP Morris Austin (3.69 ERA with 64 Ks in 53.2 IP) makes his first career start (34th appearance), as Low-A Carolina needs a victory at Fredericksburg to even the series 3-3. He threw 55 pitches of long relief 5 days ago. SS Filippo Di Turi has a 17-game on-base streak (though just a .631 OPS during it).

Hope everything is alright with Letson and Birchard. Letson was originally supposed to start Saturday and Birchard on Sunday and now neither are starting this week.

LHP Mark Manfredi (4.04 ERA with 80 Ks in 62.1 IP) started 4 days ago (37 pitches in 3 scoreless innings) and High-A Wisconsin calls upon him again. They’ve lost 4 of 5 games at Quad Cities this week. 1B Tayden Hall is having a productive stretch (.896 in last 49 PAs with 6 BB and 4 Ks).

I could Imagine it’s inning management for Letson as a Midwest HS pitcher, he will slowly build up innings. But hopefully it’s only something like that. Birchard is coming back from an injury, so hopefully he’s ok as I’m sure they want him to get a lot of looks at live game action even if they will limit some innings.

I wonder if Birchard or Woodward will be AFL candidates? And what other pitchers, a they have some candidates to get more action. And several who they likely don’t want to send (Henderson, Yoho, Hunt for example who have all jumped up multiple levels and pitched a fair bit).

And in his first start in low A, Austin cruises thru 2 IP, then starts the 3rd with 4 straight hits allowed (including a 2B and a HR), and it’s 3-2 FredNats, with a runner still on..

Biloxi trails 3 games to 2 at Montgomery, but has stud RHP Shane Smith (3.13 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 11.0 K/9 in 74.2 IP) on the mound tonight. DH Mike Boeve continues to impress in AA ball (team-leading .797 OPS in 272 PAs).

T-Rats are going to try and ride the solo jack of Ramon Rodriguez to a victory. They just grabbed a 1-0 lead. Cruz and Manfredi have each pitched 3 scoreless.

Meanwhile, the Muddies have reclaimed the lead 6-4.

Mark Manfredi - 3 scoreless innings
Stiven Cruz - 3 scoreless innings

But it’s 0-0 in the 7th! (Oops - 1-0 now - thank you @Joseph Zarr and Ramon Rodriguez - see above)

Wisconsin and Quad Cities each have a double (Tayden Hall), 3 singles and 2 more who’ve reached via walk or HBP.

Seems kind of cruel to have Stiven Cruz throw 61 pitches, 4 days after throwing a season-high 59 pitches.

With 1 out in the bottom of the 7th inning, he walked his final batter on 8 pitches, then got charged with the earned run when Aaron Rund allowed a stolen base and RBI single. 1-1 game - to the 8th Wisconsin and Quad Cities go.

Heckuv an effort by Carolina’s Brailin Rodriguez, who’s pitching twice in 3 days for the first time in his career.

And we’re not talking a light load: 3 scoreless innings (5 Ks, no walks, 1 HBP whom he then picked off) to get the Mudcats to the 8th inning, leading 6-4.

Tense games tonight:

- Wisconsin was threatening (2-on, 2-out) in the top of the 8th, then Quad Cities’ pitcher was tossed (and their Manager) mid-at bat against Jadher Areinamo, who walked. Then Ramon Rodriguez came through with a 2-run single a 3-1 lead. Aaron Rund shut it down from there over 2.2 IP

- Harrison Durow recorded the final 6 outs as Carolina held onto its 6-4 win

EBJ with a key 2-out, RBI double in the top of the 1st inning, with Connor Scott also singling in a run for an early 2-0 lead:

AAA Nashville can claim a 4-2 series victory with a win in Indianapolis tonight. RHP Mitch White (6.95 ERA with 28 Ks in 22 IP for the Sounds) gets the spot start. C Francisco Mejia homered yesterday to extend his on-base streak to 15 games.

Just reached out to my Mudcats connection. It appears young 2B Josh Adamczewski is on a good path with the current ongoing therapy regime for his back. Tentative thinking, as of today, is if all goes according to plan and his body responds the way it has been he could be back in the line-up Wendesday/Thursday of this upcoming week. And, as we know, these things can be finicky. He's young, though, and it certainly sounds as tho his body is responding very favorably to the current treatment regime. Let's keep our fingers crossed. AND, let's hope he can move past this in the near term.

With today's 4-0 shutout victory @ Montgomery, the Shuckers maintained their 2.0 G advantage over second place Pensacola. The Shuckers now hold a 24-14 record in the second half - the second best record between both divisions to Tennessee's 26-13 mark. Because Montgomery won the first half, they've already secured a playoff berth so their standing in the second half standings is relatively meaningless.

Sidebar: Extremely rough 0-for-5, 4 K day at the dish for 3B Brock Wilken in what was an extremely disappointing series overall at the plate. 2-for-24, 11 K, 3 BB. Yikes. After picking it up in July, Wilken has come crashing back to Earth and then some: 0.086 BA on the month with a 'Yikes!' 0.286 OPS. That'll impact the bottom line and it has.

Welcome to the "Maybe we should revisit RHP Mitch White as a starting pitcher?" late-season breakout party. My goodness. 5 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 WP, 7 K, 0 R. Heck of a start, in his first such action in 2024. Sounds just grabbed a 2-0 lead on an RBI single off the bat of Freddy Zamora. Bottom of the 5th.

Craig Yoho and Jacob Misiorowski combine to go 6 up and 6 down in the 6th and 7th innings for Nashville with 5 strikeouts and a 68 EV groundout haha.

Pretty much @markedman5. It's been quite obvious, honestly, since his time as a T-Rats his next real stop was the MLB ball club. His stuff is absolutely that good. Been saying it since early May.

II am so looking forward to reading tweets from opposing fans in a year or 2 that look something like this

” So they traded Devin Williams and just found a younger less expensive clone? I hate the Brewers!”
