It worked. Barely and only because Smith juuuust missed the ball. We should rely on strategy and solid decision making, not luck

You do have a point. Morale is key. The thing is, had it not worked (it did but lets think of the alternative), Freddy would not be happy and feeling good after giving up a 3-run homer and the lead.
