The offensive line, too, seemed like a tale of two halves last year. They were pretty woeful early on, and then toward the end of the season they seemed like one of the best fronts in football.

So far this year, they seem like the early 2023 version.

I don't know if they are just designed to be a team that needs time to improve as the season goes on, or what. Kind of the opposite of Minnesota? I'm still relatively confident that they'll be a better team in Week 18 than Minnesota is in Week 18.

But the template looks similar to last year with the slow start. At least they're 3-2 in this slow start.

That's funny, I was just thinking the OL has been pretty impressive...albeit not vs the best fronts in the game, but they've all been good in pass protection except for Myers. Walker had a lot of penalties early on, but he's been better. Rhyan has been good in pass-blocking.

I guess we'll find out more about the OL as the year goes on, but they've held up pretty well. Detroit, SF, they'll be better indicators.

I also wish we had a FB or another H-Back. I get a little worried Kraft can't take this level of punishment and he's become too important. I still believe in Musgrave, but they're very different types of players.

To be honest I'm going totally by memory and eye test rather than looking at any numbers. It feels to me like Jordan has often dealt with heavy pressure early on, Malik less so in those run heavy gameplans.

The pick 6 yesterday was definitely a result of the offensive line just getting beat. Not a smart throw at all by Jordan but he was desperately just trying to avoid a safety.

I was a little surprised when I looked at the stats...but then I looked at Gary and they said he had a 25% pass rush win rate vs the Rams, so....I don't know. We're certainly not dominating the LOS on either side of the ball and we were last year.

On the Love pick 6, they brought a guy off the edge and we just didn't pick them up well. That's tough play for Love. He got hit and he's just trying to fling it out of bounds, but they ended up bringing 5. We kept Jacobs in(he did get a good chip). So I see your point. These "grades" aren't the end all. They're one piece, but I think the OL has to be better.

Defensively, If Dexter Lawrence actually was on the block...I think I'd give up two picks for him though. The Rams slid their protection toward Gary never every play...meaning they're just not scared of anyone else. Lawrence is playing damn near a prime Aaron Donald level(which is why he won't be traded most likely)...but a player like that really changes your entire team.

But damn, this should be a top 5 defense. We get the safeties and the DL falls apart. And I've seen the "it takes time to go from one scheme to another," and I do not buy that. If we were going from a 4-3 to a 3-4, maybe. But we're not. This should be a relatively easy transition. Last year we were 2-5 after the Vikings dog walked us, so...it's early....but ugly.

What are you defining as "intermediate"?

Against the Vikings:

Well, I did define it as the 8-12 yard range; especially on 3rd down.  I realize I'm responding with emotion over data (and as an engineer, I appreciate the data).

Can you show it on 3rd down only? My gut feeling was that we weren't moving the sticks... we just took a LOT of shots down the field.  But again... an emotional response to seeing Stafford throw those side-line outs over and over again.

The MN was completely different as they were in prevent D for a long time, so most of what was available was the intermediate routes.

But maybe that is what Love was responding too also against LA... what was available.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

QB - Saved Love for last.

  • He was lauded for the long Reed throw because it was an excellent throw.... that he never should've made.  That should've been and easy pick if the safety was paying attention.  Awesome throw and catch, but he got lucky.

The Tom is with me, And I am one with the Tom.

Packers QB coach gave Jordan Love a zero grade for decision-making on bomb to Jayden Reed vs. Rams (usatoday.com)
