Low-A Carolina (35-20) leads Guardians’ affiliate Lynchburg (35-22) by 1 game and play 6 games at the Hillcats this week. 18-year old RHP Melvin Hernandez (2.76 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 in 49 IP) starts pivotal Game 1 of the series. 2B Luis Pena has the 2nd-highest SLG (.522) in the Carolina League.

Hernandez escapes with a swinging K on a curve ball belt high and in. Nice pitch. Pitch count ran up due to the unearned run. 1-0 Mudcats trail.

The Muddies continue to be way out ahead of this lefty's off-speed. Holguin goes down swinging on what seemed like a change dead center. Ouch. One down. Men on 1st and 2nd. Fly out to left CF (I think? Camera doesn't move. LOL). Two down.

Holguin and Walther will both regret the pitches they missed in their K's. Both missed on pitches they fouled straight back. The Muddies strand two. They trail 1-0 headed to the bottom of the 2nd.

Nice efficient second inning. Two line outs to the OF (again, camera doesn't move - presumably to left CF and RF?) and then a K looking on a gorgeous hook on the outer black and upper corner of the zone. On to the 3rd. 1-0 Muddies trail.

Made chases a high outside heater and goes down swinging to start the 3rd. Very much a ball. One down.

Meanwhile, the Sounds trail 1-0 @ Norfolk. Just got that feed going.

Payne goes down looking in a 3-2 count - that fastball was easily three inches off the plate. Terrible call. That was a walk. Sigh.

Avans begins his Nashville tenure by smoking a liner off the diving 1B glove down into the RF corner. That's a double. Delgado (BB) reached 3B. Men on 2nd and 3rd. Two down. 1-0 deficit. Top of 3rd.

Hernandez just gave up a two out single to shallow CF here in the bottom of the 3rd. Meanwhile, Walther finally got his man! He nabbed the runner at 2B - CS to end the frame. Noice! Beautiful throw and tag by Made.

Wisco with a two out rally in the first that kicked off with a Burke HBP and Dinges walk with both of them coming around to score on an Areinamo double.

Then Hedbert singled Jadher home for a third Rattler run.

When did Hedbert come back? Good to see that!!

T-Rats have scored three so far (I'm behind) in the first after two outs. Burke HBP. Dinges BB. Areinamo pull double to the LF wall. 1-0. Hedbert is up on my feed now.

Meanwhile, the Mudcats offense stranded two more in the fourth. Zimmerman is getting shelled in the third frame here. Sounds trail 4-0. Two down.

Dinges didn't score on Areinamo's dub. He scored on Hedbert's single by my eyes. FWIW.

Wilken walked and Warren went yard, 4-0 Shuckers.

Looking forward to going back and watching baby. My lil laptop multi-screen set up can't handle four games this year. I fried my IMAC last fall and am now an impoverished three game viewer.

Shuckers offense coming back to life. Warren with a HR. 4-0 Biloxi. Alrighty then!

And Birchard Ks two and it’s a 3-0 lead after 1 in Great Lakes

Mudcats - man they are no longer relentless without Dinges, and the injured Adamczewski, seeing the struggles of Bitonti (except for the weekend before last) and Payne both really having a rough go at the plate.

Foiled by GameDay (or faulty eyeballs) again.
