24-year old LF Tyler Black makes his 2025 non-rehab debut, as AAA Nashville aims to even its series in Norfolk. RHP Tobias Myers aims to build on a solid outing last week (6 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 9 Ks).

19-year old RHP Jayden Dubanewicz (2.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 in 23.2 ACL IP) makes his Low-A debut as Carolina needs a win at Lynchburg to avoid dropping to 2nd place in the division. CF Braylon Payne has 2 homers and a triple over his last 3 games.

I know you know this. BUT, for posterity's sake:

RHP Jayden Dubanewicz

Another K looking for Payne. Four K so far this series. As I've said, despite his double and HR lately he is generally all over the map with his approach.

And, like yesterday early, the Mudcats strand two runners. They move them 90 feet via a weak dribbler to the mound by BitontiAnderson grounds out to 2B. The offense just can not break through at present.

After a heartbreaking loss at Chattanooga yesterday, first place AA Biloxi trots out solid LHP Tate Kuehner (2.85 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 in 53.2 IP) to even the series. 1B Luke Adams has a 7-game hitting streak.

Dubanewicz opens his 2nd frame with a belt high inside heater torched over the left CF fence. 2-1 Mudcats. First pitch of the second inning. Heater came in flat.

Dubanewicz looks like he’s 90% arms and legs. Very short torso. 1-2-3 first on 9 pitches. Didn’t get a read on velocity.

His build reminds me of Bronson Arroyo

Jayden works around a HB via force out to 2B (failed bunt), K swinging, ground out to 2B. On to the 3rd frame. 2-1 Mudcats.

Meanwhile in Nashville, 0-0 top of 3. EMJ just ripped a one out single to RF.

AND, another Payne K. Swinging this time. Flailing at that pitch (yet again). He is such a hot mess right now. Hard to watch. Feeling for him. BUT, you are going to be hard pressed to find consistent success with his mechanics right now. They are all over the place.

Peña's swing looked much better (than Payne) in that AB. Yet, those were couple really poor swing decisions. He ended up K'ng on an off-speed ball a foot short and in the dirt. Woof. Bitonti flies out to the CF warning track. 2-1. On to the bottom of the 3rd.

Man, I am seeing K after K via both the Nashville and Carolina bats. Not a great way to start the evening. LOL. Dunn down swinging. Zamora down swinging.

1:35:17 on the Nashville game feed if anyone wants to see LF Tyler Black get a late jump; a challenged angle; and a misplay on a hard hit liner to LF. Seemed like a good jump (hard to tell if he can see in that sun, honestly) gets there. Seems like a better play on the ball prevents the runner from taking 2B. Hard to say. Weird play. Didn't look natural tho.

Man, rough inning for Myers. Consecutive pitches in the dirt plate two more. May be 2 WP. May be a PB to a WP. Either way....sloppy inning. Sounds now trail 3-0.

Seigler running before the pitch scores on a Dalbec oppo triple that caroms very helpfully off the RF wall. Got a great bounce. 3-1 Sounds trail.

Anyone got a velocity on Dubanewicz? Whole lotta ground balls.

90-91 mph is the tops I am seeing. Everything dips. He seems to have a sinker and a four-seamer but favors the sinker and tries to sneak the four-seamer for swinging K's up.

Made walked and picked up his 24th SB while Payne flails at an off-speed pitch (announcers words here - not just my repeated observations lol) to fall behind 0-2. He is on the verge of K'ng for the sixth time in 8 AB. Unbelievable. He K's. That's three straight K's today. He is just not good right now.
