The Mudcats can capture this week’s home series over Columbia with a Sunday win behind 18-year RHP Ethan Dorchies, who’s making his first Low-A start (2.2 IP, 2 R, 3 Ks in relief last week). OF Braylon Payne is missing a 5th straight game. SS Jesus Made ranks high in the Carolina League (R - 5th, H - 7th, 2B - 3rd, RBI - 5th, SB - 6th, AVG - 7th, OBP - 10th).

Ethan Dorchies retired his first five batters (four via K) before giving up a double + single = run, then getting the third out with another strikeout.

Mudcats answered back bottom two with a Filippo Di Turi walk and Gery Holguin RBI triple.

Dorchies back out for the third and goes 3U3D (1 K).

Here are 5 of the 6 K's (the other was a pitch clock violation)

22-year old RHP Jaron DeBerry makes his 3rd start in 11 days and High-A Wisconsin seeks to snap its 3-game skid at West Michigan. SS Jadher Areinamo has a 10-game hitting streak.

Jayden Dubanewicz on for the fourth and puts up a 1-2-3 inning of his own.

Reading between the GameDay lines it looks like Eric Bitonti had a bloop double on a “pop up to the SS”, went to third on a Filippo ground out, and scored the second Carolina run on a balk.

Now Bitonti doubles, and goes to third on DiTuri grounder, and he scores on a balk. Holguin stikes out to end the inning. Muddies up 2-1. Dubanewicz pitched the 4th and should go 3-4 innings (hoping for 4 since that means he is efficient and gets outs!)  It would really turn the weekend around (from a prospect downer weekend) if the 2024 pitchers can do well today - Dorchies started the day with his effective 3 IP, 6K 0BB, but 50 pitches to get through 3 IP

Very nice fielding play at 3B by DiTuri. Barehands the ball and fires to first to retire Gonzalez and get Dubanewicz out of the inning, but not after a 1 out triples and a single to tie the game.

RHP Tobias Myers makes his 2nd start of the week (6 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks on Tuesday), as AAA Nashville shoots for a Sunday home victory to clinch a 4-2 series over Iowa. 1B Andrew Vaughn has an extra-base hit in 4 straight games, but has also hit into 3 GIDPs.

DeBerry gets two quick outs, But Max Clark demolished it to deep center. 1-1 game

DeBerry hits the next batter. Gonna need to reel it in here.

Yesterday was all about triples ... today it's double as in double posting ... @sveumrules you keep beating me to the punch

Haha, I was just checking in before I gotta do some stuff this afternoon, but hopefully a fruitful day for the affiliates (& the big league club too).

Winds are blowing out in all directions in Grand Rapids as Hedbert slugs a HR to right.

Areinamo to left, Clark to deep center, and Hedbert to right.

Dang it. Dubanewicz gives up a double. They nearly pick the runner off, can't see how close, but sounded close.

A couple of pitches later a foul ball out of play, and Dubanewicz had the ball, unsure of the rules when it is live again, but the runner at second takes off and makes it in. That comes back to bite as the deep sac fly to RF scores him

Well I guess it's moot as Dubanewicz gives up another double. Not his sharpest. But still not too bad for a young pitcher who was only drafted last year. It's 3-2 and Fireflies are looking to add to the lead. But he gets Um to ground out. And it's on to the bottom of 6.  7K and 0 BB for Dorchies/Dubanewicz.

Meanwhile DeBerry gives a 2 out hit and a walk, but gets Stephenson swinging to end the 2nd. It's still 2-1 TRats.

Areinamo playing like he wants to get to AA to fill the voids from Wilken/Adams injuries.

2-2 today with the HR.

Burke is not - still scuffling. GIDP gets him an RBI at least, but he is 4 for his last 28 and 10K, yikes.

DInges walks, and Garcia (who also could be promoted) singles, and looking for more, but Hedbert Ks. 3-1 lead.

Dubanewicz is out.  Jose Nova is in (recent ACL promotion) and gets the first man. Then gives up a hit to a guy named Josi Novas.  So Josi Novas singles off Jose Nova.  OK I find that funny, but that's just me. 2 outs now, and need to keep it a 3-2 game. And this offense needs to pick it up- only 3 hits all game. And Nova gets out of the inning. Bottom of 7 with DiTuir-Holguin-Rodriguez due up.

Dorchies looks big (not just tall) compared to most 18 year olds. I think he will move through the system quickly.

Thanks for the updates gents. Seems like another competitive day. These are tough series this past week all the way around. Good competitive baseball.

Cats coming back!

Nice. Another Bitonti bomb. And it’s 4-3. But Anderson 0-4 with 4K today ends it

Bjorn Johnson - who looked so good, has one of those outings occasionally and today looks like that occasion.  2 walks surround a double. It’s tied 4-4 and runners at the corners.  Dang.

Looks at TRats. And Whitecals came back to,tie it as well.  DeBerry only goes 3 innings and Figueroa get through the 4th. Root in and starts HBP and HR to McGonigle.

It’s now a 5-4 Fireflies lead after a sac fly. 2 outs runner on third. Gotta get this batter and get the offense into comeback mode again.

Can’t get the video to load but looks like Johnson picks off the runner at third trying to steal home or just break early? Either way top of 9 is over, and Muddies need 1 to force extras and 2 to walk it off.

TRats give up the lead Root still trying to get out of it.
