I feel old. They look so young. The Lake County pipeline is fierce! Flores soon to be in the fold as well. We thank the great state of Indiana for their continued contributions to Brewers baseball.

Back-and-forth DSL games. Blue blew a 7-2 lead. Gold blew a 7-3 advantage. Both still battling in their respective games to try to pull it out.

Gold never caught up after falling behind 9-7.

Blue scored 4 in the 9th to grab an 11-10 lead and were 1 out away from winning in the 9th and 11th innings, ultimately falling 14-13.

RF Carlos Done (HR, 2 doubles), C Yoneiker Lugo (double, single, 2 walks; pulled in 7th inning though), Carlos Galindo (5 IP, 2 R, 2 Ks) were top performers.

Done has been very good all of July. What has OF Carlos Done since July 15th, however? Fantastic question. I'm here to give you an answer:

25 AB / 10 H / 7 R / 3 2B / 3 HR / 5 RBI / 3 BB / 8 K / 2 SB

Batting average has gained 30 points moving from a 0.232-to-0.262 in that span. The young man is absolutely balling.

0.832 OPS on the season over 125 PA's

The Low-A Mudcats have won 6 consecutive games and have red-hot RHP Travis Smith (16 IP, 3 R (1 ER), 17 Ks in last 3 starts) toeing the slab tonight. 2B Josh Adamczewski has not missed a beat since return from injury (8-for-18 with 3 extra-base hits).

Rehabbing Robert Gasser starts for High-A Wisconsin at Quad Cities, though it may be a short one for him (9 pitches in last rehab outing). Andrick Nava has caught 4 of the team’s last 5 games. This week’s series is presently tied 1-1.

C Jorge Alfaro enters as the sole lineup change from yesterday’s 14-run outburst for AAA Nashville, who seek a 3-0 home series lead over Charlotte. Nestor Cortes makes his 4th rehab start, having thrown 80 pitches last week (5.1 IP, 1 R, 3 Ks).

Enderson Mercado debut in low A tonight.  Very nice outing so far with 2 IP, allows 1 hit and has 1 walk (0 K), but is on,y at 22 pitches, with 15 strikes to 7 balls.

No gun on Gasser but velocity appears to be good.

Looks like a walk and double then a sac fly and Gasser on the hook for 2 runs. But he has a successful rehab inning.

DeBerry comes on in relief and his season continues - he has stuff but just not translating to results. Disappointing season so far.

Old friend Bryse Wilson pitching for Charlotte against rehabbing Cortes.  So far not a lot going on in the 3rd inning. A lot of fireworks between the clubs in terms of offense the past couple of nights.

Keep that ball. Mercado’s first full season affiliated ball strike out.  He works quick. And looks comfortable with a nice easy delivery.

GIDP - a pitchers best friend. DiTuri fields it cleanly and it’s 5-4-3. Enderson Mercado now thru 3 IP, 35 pitches.  He looks just comfortable and confident.  Not overpowering at all and doesn’t have what looks like a lot of movement but a nice lefty delivery. I’m intrigued.

Adamczewski has a nice swing. I think I read that here once before 😉

‘But man Made just and easy swing but it’s 102 EV and off the wall for a double. He looks much better recently. Muddies looking to get some insurance runs in the 8th.

T-Rats trying to tie it up after Areinamo doubles, steals and scores on an error  Hedbert is hot and draws another walk.

But Blake Burke is in a mini-slump right now. I think he has had 3 GIDP the past few nights. Ugh

Runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs. And the Mudcats channel their inner T-Rats (or is it T-Rays) and K, K, grounder 3 unassisted. And it’s still only 2-0 going to top of 9th.  Bitonti has so much power but he just misses too many pitches.

Anderson with what could be the game saving catch. Hard hit ball to deep center and Jose tracks it down. Two down and Mercado looking to close out the game.

Ok. Nestor dealing tonight. He is through 5 innings and up to 72 pitches. 2 hits, 1 walk and 7 K, including the last 2 outs via the K. Not sure how long his rehab outing will go. He may be done, or maybe they push him to 80-90 pitches - I can’t remember what the plan was.

Ok. While I waxed poet on young Mr. Mercado, what was lost is the excellent 5 innings by Travis Smith. He has been pitching so well this month. As a college draft pick last year, he could see a move up to Wisconsin if he puts together a couple more solid outings.
