Brewers at Cubs--Game 2 of Doubleheader --> Tuesday, August 19 @ 7:05 p.m.: Brandon Woodruff (2.06 ERA, 3.62 FIP) vs. Jameson Taillon (4.44 ERA, 5.19 FIP)

well, that triple tells you all you need to know about tonight.  Talk about the ball bouncing the Cubs way.

And then Turang blows the throw home.  Just not good baseball today.  It happens.

The tiebreaker is worth half a game.

But at the end of the season there are no half games.

If the Cubs are 5 games behind the Brewers after Thursday, they would have to gain 5 more the rest of the way to catch up and win the division. By any accounting that’s a 5 game lead.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

The woodpeckers do not seem to be pecking today.

It  happens.  They were do a rough stretch.  It will be interesting to see how they handle it.

Taillon is the worst starter the Brewers were going to face in this series and the offense has disappeared.

Everyone was cocksure that we were going to win tonight after dropping the afternoon game. “Well, of course we lost, it was our worst starter against their best!”

Turns out it’s baseball, and just because we had Woodruff vs Taillon tonight didn’t guarantee anything.

Momentum has switched, and we look like scared little boys right now.

This is the first game in weeks that actually feels like we simply aren't going to win.

Meh, still 9 outs to go, and if we can keep it at a 3 run deficit, we are not out of it.

Yeah, I mean, they were playing at a crazy pace. They were due for some course correction the other way. I'm hoping we can still salvage at least one of these games, though.

I get it, it's just easier to think of it as being worth half a game. If the Brewers have a 5-game lead, and the Cubs make up 5 games, the Cubs win the division. So, really, it's like the Brewers are up 4.5.

It doesn't matter that much. Just how it makes most sense to me.

Ashby ... so talented ... so underachieving ...

Makes me think of a left handed Freddy Peralta. So fun to watch when he’s on, and horrible to watch when he isn’t.

First one in weeks where they seem to be feeling the pressure instead of just making plays.  That throw home from Turang is a good example.  Pressing in at bats too instead of seeing pitches.  I don't want to take anything away from Taillon, but the Brewers have have made it easier on him than they had to since the 1st.  After the 1st there is no way he should have gotten through 6.

The Btewers were/still are in a position to take total control of division.  Was this a team that got hot and played way ahead of its true worth?  If they lose 4/5

to the Cubs here maybe that is true.

Cant allow that to happen.

We will see.

It's not going to be a 5 game lead.  The Brewers will get 1 more win this series and leave Chicago up 7.

My frustration is they had the Cubs on the ropes for the division, the Cubs absolutely needed the sweep today and it looks like they’re going to get it. It was a 7 game division lead versus 11 swing today. It’s huge.

7 games isn’t insurmountable. We were down 5.5 in September to the Cubs a few years ago and came back for it.

That rainout was a gift for the Cubs last night. Let them reset themselves

Frankly, I was hoping it would help the Brewers be a bit more rested. I suppose they could indeed feel a bit more rested, but they're definitely not as sharp the last couple of games.
