I did that to a kid my very first tee-ball practice.  Right between the eyes, busted him open.  Never wanted to pitch after that.

A few years later when I was 11 or 12 my coach asked me to because we had no other pitchers available.  Was not comfortable at all the first inning (walked the first five batters).  Ended up throwing a complete game with 9 Ks in 5 innings.

Hey, uh, the Brewers need some bullpen depth.  How's your change up?

Lose some velocity, pick up a cutter.  Woody has transformed himself marvelously.

He really has. He knows how to work the batters, and he hits his spots with good pitches. An excellent veteran pitcher.

Three years $60M … who says yes?

Guaranteed contract for five more years at $40M per season

And now his numbers are such that it's unlikely anyone would take that contract on in a trade.

But why did he sign the contract in the first place?

$.  I think there was some talk about how the Angels were going to invest in players, but that never really happened.

When you have a lot of money in Southern California, life can be really, really enjoyable.

So he doesn't care about winning then.

Because it was for 12 years, $426.5 million.

True.  Also I'm pretty sure he signed it in 2019 when they still had 4 years of control with Ohtani.  Hard to argue when it's that kind of $ and you've got help like Ohtani.

It's just my memory of the discussions going on when it was time for his big contract. I think the Angels made sounds about who they were going to create a good team around him.
