Agreed.  The bunt was a terrible decision there.  If not for some great baserunning by Durbin, we could have gone from 1st/3rd with 1 out to 1st/2nd with 2 outs...

If anything, why not just do a full on suicide squeeze? Pitcher is absolutely hurting for strikes, he is likely getting a hell of a fastball over the plate or another awful pitch he fouls away.

Yeah, when I suggested bunt I was thinking full on squeeze for sure. Safety is tough in that situation when the Cubs know it might be coming.

Inherently that is the problem with bunting. Teams (and fans) treat it like the execution is a given (“just bunt him over to 3rd”!) when the reality is not nearly that simple. 

In most cases one of the “best” case scenarios still results in you sacrificing an out for some other marginally good outcome. It’s just not the good baseball play that it was once thought to be.
