This kind of reminds me of 2019 when the Bucks were rolling in the ECF, up 2-0. The Raptors took everything they could to barely win Game 3 in overtime.

The prevailing thought was “it’s fine. They don’t have enough left. It took everything just to get one win.”

Only that’s not how sports work, and we didn’t win another game. Momentum is a real thing. Boyd could easily shut us down tomorrow, Peralta could have command problems and we could lose 8-1. It’s baseball.

Or, we could get that big hit tomorrow and finish this. I really don’t know. But the Cubs aren’t finished just because they had to scratch and claw for one tonight. We will have to earn win #3 all the way.

So…what’s your point?

Lockridge was fine. Great AB with a bad decision at the end and a bunt that was too hard. Winker was a total disaster

Not only that but Counsell went with Winker as a PH in multiple games.  He did it more than once. I wouldn't have started Lockridge but it isn't why they lost.  They lost because Priester and then Mears couldn't throw strikes or (with Mears) hit the catchers glove consistently and because Turang is slumping and they went 2 for 9 with runners in scoring position.  That wasn't Lockridge.

Happy Jonah Hill GIF

I’m not quite there yet, but I’ll be there if we don’t win tomorrow.

I’ve been kicked in the nuts by the Brewers and Packers too many times in the postseason to be oozing with confidence.

Lockridge wasn’t the singular reason.

I just want to see Murphy go with his best damn lineup tomorrow and if we lose with that and Peralta, so be it, but at least it was our best damn shot.

Im going to be in Chicago Saturday and Sunday and I’m dreading the fact that I might find myself surrounded by thousands of celebrating Cubs fans.

Well... dream about being in the middle of thousand of depressed, sad Chicago fans(so their natural state).

That's fair.  I do to, and I suspect he will.

lol that last part is fair.  And it doesn't help that MLB is literally structured for the Brewers to not win a title.  I do think they'll get past the Cubs.  I don't think they'll get through the NLCS.

Just spitballing here, but maybe Murphy can have *both* Bauers and Vaughn in the lineup tomorrow?  Put Yelich in LF, Vaughn at 1st and DH Bauers.  And enough of this Yelich leading off and Turang batting third crap.

I'm at peace if we lose the NLCS to the Dodgers, although I’m sure I will be massively disappointed and bemoaning the inequalities of MLB’s structure.

Just at least end the Cubs’ season, win a playoff series. That would be progress.

Speculation is Boyd starting Game 4. Not sure if that will be the case but you definitely wouldn’t want Bauers starting.

Wrote about this in the Game 4 thread, but if it's Boyd, I'll take that as a Brewer fan. Makes Murph's lineup choices ridiculously easy.

If I'm CC, I might start Civale (not blue). I think Soroka or a different righty opener (could even see Ben Brown or Palencia) will be the call in the end. More extended reasoning in other thread.

I want to jump out to a 3-4 run lead tomorrow. Get them tight, get them to press , to chase. They’re still the only ones playing an elimination game tomorrow, so the pressure is still on.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a dominant 2-0 start against the Jays, opened things up for the Yankees by blowing Game 3 and are cruising tonight. Hopefully we will follow a similar blueprint.

Just want to add, perspective is a crazy thing.

If Miz had blown Game 2… if Chourio’s fly ball to CF comes up just short and we lost Game 2, but tonight we got the huge hit in the 8th and won 5-4…

We’d be feeling great right now. With the same series lead.

Murphy putzed with the line-up again.   This was the line-up used against the Reds in last regular season series.   Leave Yeli in the 3 or 4 spot and keep freaking Chourio or Frelick at leadoff.   This is the playoffs - I do not want to have to deal with another collapse like last year against the Mets.

And don't forger about Collins who has done nothing since the all star break. Didn't like Murphy's lineup from the jump and it was managed almost like a spring training game.

He was on fire after the break. His best baseball was post-ASB.

He struggled when he started getting more sporadic playing time the last few weeks of September, but he was still much better the 2nd half vs the 1st half.

Bauers turned out to be the right lever to pull, but yeah, other than that, it was more of a lineup you expected on a random Sunday in July than a chance to win the NLDS game.

Yeah... these kids, for the most part, had nothing to do with the past losses.

I'm choosing to continue to be optimistic.

I wouldn't have done anything because I'm not the manager and the game is over. I'm not a would've, could've, should've guy.

My only point is that Sal Frelick is our right fielder.

.... right, but we were talking about how they'd configure the OF for the bottom of the 9th HAD they scored and you're the one who was adamantly against Frelick playing CF.

So... It's pretty valid question.

If we're doing the 'I'm not the manager, so it doesn't matter,' thing, then your objection to him playing CF doesn't make much sense in the first place.

Phillies look like they might take one today.

You could argue there’s a pretty good amount of pressure on the Dodgers for Game 4 if they don’t win tonight, knowing they have to go back to Philly for Game 5 if they lose tomorrow.
