Everyone knows minor league contraction is something that MLB owners want. Lance Brozdowski had a video talking about the possibility of the Low A level being removed during the next CBA. This had me wondering what would the Brewers do in that situation. They own their A ball club and have a brand new facility being built in Wilson. They probably love their partnership with the Timber Rattlers.

My solution was Wilson would replace Biloxi as our AA affiliate and our 3 affiliates would be Wisconsin (A+), Wilson (AA), and Nashville (AAA). If you look at the map, Wilson could be in a division with Tennessee, Chattanooga, and Rocket City and it would make plenty of sense geographically.

What are your guys thoughts?

If this were to happen, I agree with you that Biloxi is probably out and Wilson becomes the AA affiliate. I really hope this doesn't happen, though. I love following the minor league teams as their own thing, not only as a farm system for the MLB roster and losing that would be awful. Not to mention the drastic reduction in the number of players in affiliated ball that would come from another reduction.

Agreed. I don't think anyone outside of MLB owners want MiLB to contract even further.

MiLB will necessarily expand with MLB expansion, which mitagates contracting teams/leagues.

I think the Brewers have invested in AZ, Wisconsin, Carolina, and the DR. I doubt any of those sites can maintain a AAA team in the event Nashville wins an MLB bid (Wisconsin?)? None of us want to play musical chairs again with AAA, I don't think, but it may be necessary.

Also, while fewer affiliated leagues necessarily contracts the number of affiliated players, it also then, allows for college/independent leagues to cater toward development, and gives players greater flexibility to direct the course of their careers.

Could Wisconsin be the new AA team rather than Wilson?

The T-Rats being right up the road from Milwaukee, might lend an even better hand at rehabbing Brewers players during the season.

I was wondering the same thing, although the money being poured into the new facility at Wilson, plus geographics, probably makes that unlikely. Also often fantasized about eventually putting a ballpark somewhere in Waukesha or a bit west of there & having a similar situation to the Astros, Red Sox, Braves & Twins with your top farm team a stones' throw away. I know, pipe dream.

As to the topic, I think @wiguy94's solution makes the most sense if there is contraction.

The facility is definitely good enough for AA but the issue is that there’s no AA league remotely close to Appleton. It would take a complete makeover of the leagues for that to happen.

So I'm being lazy in asking what our various minor league stadiums seat?

Wilson/Single-A - 4,500, 3,500 fixed

T-Rats/High-A  - 5,900

Biloxi/Double-A. 6,067, 4,500 fixed

Nashville/ Triple-A 10,000

If we lost Nashville as a AAA affiliate, then Richmond, VA (solid attendance, new stadium seats 10,000) or Grand Rapids, MI (solid attendance, stadium seats 10,923) might be options, I guess.
