I’ve seen the chatter, and first, no, I think there’s absolutely nothing to it. Witt is a cornerstone player for the Royals. They signed him to an 11 year extension and are building around him. I don’t think they are going to move away from that just because they aren’t good right now.

But to play along, no, that wouldn’t get it done. Made and Pena are both gone, foregone conclusion. Then maybe Lara, Fischer, and Bishop Letson.  So a 5 prospect package of all high end prospects.

If we were lucky. He’s that valuable.

I would very seriously doubt they would trade him. He is 25 with a very reasonable contract through 2037 potentially. He is likely a 7-10 WAR player for a long time. After Shohei and Judge he is the best player in the league, with his age probably the most valuable long term. I would do terrible things to get him outside of Made and Chourio. It would take more than the Juan Soto deal in my opinion.

Pena, Pratt, Fischer, Josh A, Henderson, Sproat, and Yoho would be close off the top of my head. To be honest I would let them take 2 pitching prospects with that offer and let them swap out Quero, Dinges, Burke, or Payne for any of the position guys.

He has an opt out so not nearly as much control as you would think. We would have to give up Made ++ for sure to have a chance.

Yeah I mentioned this another thread. He’s almost assuredly going to opt out after the 2030 season

Even if he opts out after the 2030 season that is about 4.5 seasons worth of an All Star caliber SS.  I think it would be worth it to do that trade.

I would agree with this.  I would be over the moon if Made becomes this type of player with that value.  Given our elite pitching right now and Jackson coming into his prime while we still have William and Bryce, I would do this.

it would of course depend on what else they wanted.  Yeah, he’s not locked in past 2030… but we might not want to pay for his post-prime anyways.

For 4 years of a player making 125M over those 4 years?

No, I don't think you'd have to trade both and I think that's the price "if we were lucky."

It's also more like a 7-year extension unless he gets hurt and his value tanks, then it's an 11 year extension, otherwise, just 7.

Yes, because the player is an extremely good MVP caliber player who is good for about 7 WAR every year and those 4 years, assuming he opts out, are still a tremendous value.

Yes, I didn't need a ranking to tell me Bobby Witt Jr was valuable. I... was well aware of that. He's also very good. I'm... very aware of that as well.

Still don't think we'd be "lucky" to give up basically 5 prospects for the Royals to pick from, including the top prospect in the game as well as a top 15-20+ 3 others who are top 100 or close to top 100 prospects.

Well, I provided some context to support my original point. Witt isn’t a household name to everyone because he plays in KC. Not obviously an unknown, but underrated because of his market,

Anyway, I think this is all a moot point because I don’t expect Witt to even be available but will have to agree to disagree because I think if we were pursuing Witt and told them only one of our top two prospects was available as part of a package, they’d stop returning our calls and move on to the many other suitors.
