Some DSL Stats

As of 7/18 here are some of our better DSL first year prospects. Looking pretty good!  I really love the strikeout/Walk ratio.  They are learning to control what they swing at.

Matos with 1 HR per 13 at bats as a barely 17 yr old with his 175lb frame while holding the hit tool is... a stat I would like to highlight.

And walks at the same rate he strikes out, even better.

Those are good, however the DSL offensive numbers this season are ridiculous league wide, so our guys aren’t in the top 30-50 (except for Matos) in OPS or wRC+.  Matos is having a great season, and Moneys/Frontado have a lot of great skills. This seems to be a better year than last year in terms of IFA/DSL prospects but no where near the 2024 class.

There is no Made or Pena relative to the rest of the league, but the only first-year guys across the league who are on that level statistically this year are carrying 29+% walk rates. When you strip out some of the walk wackiness, you could make a statistical case for Matos as a top 5 bat, but the rest aren’t there.

This year’s group is really impressive in the aggregate, especially when it comes to power. The five best multi-team organizations in the DSL as far as offensive production this season are the Yankees, Rangers, Brewers, Guardians and Rockies. The Rangers, Yankees and Rockies get a high percentage of the production from returning players. The Guardians are young like the Brewers, but their youngsters are more OBP machines. The Brewers have six 17-younger qualified hitters with a .200+ ISO. Those other four teams have two combined.
