For anyone scoring at home, with the Yankees trade, that means the following current playoff teams have made trades(to upgrade their current rosters): Dodgers, Yankees, D Rays, Twins, White Sox, Braves, Red Sox(even though Mead got hurt). That leaves : Astros, Phillies, DBacks, Brewers, Cubs, Guardians that haven't. Only two of those teams Astros, and brewers lead their divisions, the rest are all wild cards. Yes, the deadline isn't until 5PM tomm, but Matt A must be so proud.

This is the game thread.  There is an entire trade forum with multiple threads.

That AB shows the downside of Contreras. Up 2-0 against a team that's struggled to close out games, and he tries to hit a 3-run bomb with no one on base.

His mechanics are a mess right now.

Contreras hitting 209 over the last 30 games.

I am more than a little worried the hitting coaches are in way over their head.

Having Vogelbach as your hitting coach is like having Rob Deer as your hitting coach.

Today is what you are likely looking at even if we traded for skubal once the play offs start

Basically a rerun of last year's NLCS.

Not sure who the hitting coach is at AAA but I would take a hard look at bringing him up.

Would this be our third shutout in two weeks?

I don't think anybody realistically believes the Crew has any shot at the W.S. with this offense. I'm happy Arnold didn't waste any good prospects chasing a rental in Skubal. Getting beat 2-0 or 8-2  doesn't matter, It's still a loss. Keep the prospects and hope some of them turn out to be helpful. With 2027 looking to be all but lost, no sense in losing good prospects for rentals. The Dodgers getting Skubal I believe, forces MLB to address the monstrous disparity that clouds baseball.

We were out thanks to Contreras' ridiculous challenge earlier.

Frustrating road stand, guess you’ll take 3-3 when you played pretty meh ball. I keep expecting this team to put it all together but it hasn’t happened in awhile.

Or maybe even in Biloxi … those guys are destroying the baseball 😁

Wasn’t a strike to Lara but that’s what stupid selfish challenges earlier in the game will get you in the 9th.

It’s kind of sad when any team with the best record in the league in August (entering today) says “I don’t think anyone realistically believes we have any shot at the WS”.

I sure hope that the guys in the clubhouse believe they do or what the hell are we even doing here.
