I wonder if Cubs fans were.

I would bet that Cubs fans are looking at the wild card standings. They’ve been burned enough times that they aren’t taking anything for granted. Especially older fans who remember 1969 when they had a 9 game division lead in mid August and ended the season 9 games behind the Miracle Mets

I also think that Murphy and the Brewers coaches are looking at those standings. Their plan for the rest of the regular season seems to be prioritizing having the team, especially the pitchers, be as fit as possible for the postseason and if they can win the division while doing that, it would be a bonus. But they have to keep an eye on the wild card standings to make sure they don’t put the wild card spot in Jeopardy.

Cubs managed one hit today, an oppo bloop single.

No offense on that team at all.  They're doomed if they even make it to the playoffs.

Cubs are averaging 5.83 run per game in August.  I think their offense is fine.

Who would have guessed huge series against the Dodgers and Gary Sanchez is hitting 3. For those who didn't think they needed a bat thoughts?

Sanchez and Yelach have identical averages.

He has been the only guy remotely warm at the plate right now.

Cubs have 2 hitters with OPS over .800

Brewers have 4 hitters with OPS over .800

Cubs also have an MVP candidate and not a single hitter under a .700 OPS (Brewers have three under .700.).  One of those teams is averaging almost six runs a game in August while the other is...........not.

Yelich had already become problematic on the roster because he can’t hit anymore. The fact he also is incapable of playing in the field anymore makes his roster spot even more problematic. Gary Sanchez is starting at 1B not DH tonight because Yelich is a pure DH now.

If his name wasn’t Christian Yelich and they didn’t have to pay him 24 million dollars no matter what he is doing, they would have absolutely zero interest in him returning to the roster in 2027.

How much runs did the Brewers average in July and August last year?

Going to hot take on their cereal conversation but not really because I’m right.  All cereal is gross.

You’re saying the cubs offense is good because they’re averaging 5-6 runs per game in August. That’s crazy

Yelich had a .324/.414/.559/.973 slash line last August with 7 dingers.

Unless he somehow starts to appear not totally washed up again, last year ain’t gonna help this offense.

No,  I'm saying the Cubs offense is good...period.  Cubs have a 111 OPS+ on the season (second only to these Dodgers at 112).  Brewers at 102 and fading.   The Cubs offense is good....full stop,  That isn't crazy my friend but I think you might be a better authority on that part than me.

The Cubs offense is good because they hit for power and get on base.  Not just because they’ve been good in August.  It’s like you’re willfully ignoring things right in front of you to piss people off

Feels like Brewers can't even steal a base anymore.

Bad choice to run there.

Sanchez pretty much the only guy hitting dingers right now.
