The Cubs are great at the things Counsell can control. He can’t do anything about their god awful pitching.

Greg Clown$ell is average at best.

It's really hard not to be optimistic about our world series chances right now. Just about everyone on the offense right now is hitting the ball well. Misi, Henderson, Harrison, and May looks like it should be able to hold its own in the playoffs. The bullpen has probably been the biggest strength for over a month and we will be getting back 2 of our better chess pieces within a week or so.

Agreed. I kinda wish the playoffs were starting right now while we’re dialed in, hot, and mostly healthy.

He's regressed to the mean.

I don’t think the Cubs pitching is really that god awful these days. It’s definitely better than it was in the first part of the season.

It looks bad compared to the Brewers. But for the last few months their runs allowed per game is one of the best in the NL. The deadline acquisitions and pitchers returning from injuries have helped.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Their defense masks a lot of their pitching issues. It's not that good.

At this point I don’t think 5-2 is good enough for the cubs.

I would say it’s a necessary, but not sufficient, condition.

Gaining 3 games plus the tiebreaker could make things more interesting with 15 games still to play, , especially if they can gain another 1 or 2 this weekend or next weekend.

Either way, their overall run prevention is significantly better since the big slump that dropped their record to .500 in mid June.
